The QS Higher Education Festival recently took place in London, which was an exciting turn of events. University leaders were informed about the potential effects of government changes to dependent visas on the UK economy during the festival.
Interestingly, QS polled 5000 international students considering attending a university in the UK. The survey revealed students’ reactions to the enactment of any suggested changes to the rules governing student visas. They were questioned over their eligibility to bring their dependents with them to the UK.
Prior to the QS poll, the study found that roughly 56% of the participants totally ignorant of any suggested modifications. According to the survey’s findings, one in four international students show no interest in studying in the UK. In a survey of respondents from Rusell Group universities, one in five said their initial study goals set to derail.
HEPI Analysis
Looking at the current HEPI analysis that reflects the contribution of international students also allowed for the perception of alternative situations. The scenario that may cost the nation £10 billion turned out to prove the worst-case scenario. A report by HEPI, Kaplan International Pathways, and Universities UK International claims that during the academic year 2021–2022, the country’s economy benefited from foreign students to the tune of £4.95 billion.
Remember that the QS also stated that 200,000 fewer international students will study in the UK by 2025.
