Study in Ireland | Latin America Fellowships 2027

Early and mid-career professionals from 13 Latin American countries now have an extraordinary opportunity to study in Ireland with comprehensive government funding. The Ireland Fellows Programme – Latin America 2027-28 covers tuition, flights, accommodation, visa costs, insurance, and monthly living stipends. This prestigious award targets professionals with leadership potential who want to pursue one-year master’s degrees at Irish higher education institutions.

What the Fellowship Covers

This programme stands out because it provides complete financial support rather than partial assistance. Selected fellows receive:

  • Full academic fees for their chosen master’s programme
  • Economy flights to and from Ireland
  • Visa application fees and Irish residence permit costs
  • Medical and travel insurance throughout the study period
  • Settling-in allowance after arrival in Ireland
  • Monthly stipend of €700 for living expenses (subject to review)
  • Accommodation arranged and paid for trimesters 1 and 2 (September to May)
  • Monthly accommodation stipend of €800–€1,000 for trimester 3 (location dependent)

One important restriction applies: the fellowship covers the selected recipient only and excludes financial support or visas for spouses or dependents.

Eligibility Requirements

The programme operates through three distinct award routes targeting specific countries:

  • Central America Award: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras
  • Roger Casement Award in Human Rights: Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela
  • Cecilia Grierson Award in Equality (STEMM subjects) : Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay

Candidates must demonstrate at least three years of substantial work experience directly relevant to their proposed master’s programme. Additionally, applicants need bachelor’s degrees from accredited institutions, normally with minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent), awarded in 2015 or later.

Applicants already holding master’s degrees or higher cannot apply. Similarly, those currently studying at master’s level or due to begin programmes in 2026/27 are excluded.

Why This Award Is Selective Yet Achievable

This fellowship targets professionals who can demonstrate credible links between their careers, chosen master’s programmes, and home country development priorities. Consequently, competition favours candidates showing leadership, public-value work, relevance to Sustainable Development Goals, and convincing plans for building professional connections between Latin America and Ireland.

Strong academic records matter, yet the application process emphasises strategic thinking over pure grades. Applicants must select three eligible master’s programmes from the official directory, ideally across different Irish institutions to improve course offer chances.

Ireland’s Higher Education Advantage

Ireland has built a strong international reputation in technology, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, innovation, and research partnerships. For Latin American professionals, the appeal extends beyond funding to include access to English-speaking European academic environments with postgraduate programmes tied to public policy, development, human rights, equality, science, and institutional capacity building.

The Irish Government funds this programme through relevant Embassies of Ireland, with implementation support from the Irish Council for International Students. The stated purpose involves developing future leaders who return home with skills contributing to national capacity building.

Application Requirements and Deadline

Stage 1 requires submitting a preliminary application by email to the relevant Embassy of Ireland. Applicants must include typed application forms with official identification, undergraduate degree certificates, and final academic transcripts. Applications without these documents remain invalid.

The application requests personal details, education history, work experience, leadership roles, three master’s programme choices, and motivation statements explaining how selected programmes support career goals, national SDG priorities, and Irish connections.

Shortlisted candidates without acceptable English certification may need Duolingo English Tests, while others might require IELTS in January 2027. Most Irish institutions expect around IELTS 6.5 overall, though some programmes demand higher scores.
