NIHR SPHR Transdisciplinary Fellowships in Public Health Research 2026

Applications are open for NIHR’s Transdisciplinary Fellowships in public health. This program targets researchers outside traditional public health disciplines. Fields like engineering, architecture, and data science are welcome. Fellows transition their existing expertise into public health research. Up to three fellowships will be awarded this cycle. Who Isn’t Eligible

• Traditional public health disciplines are excluded
• This includes medicine, epidemiology, and psychology
• Also excludes sociology, nursing, and health economics

Research Focus Areas

• Health inequalities across social and economic factors
• Public mental health at the population level
• Healthy places and planetary health connections
• Children, young people, and family wellbeing

What Fellows Will Do

• Complete a Public Health Master’s degree during the fellowship
• Contribute to ongoing SPHR research projects
• Work directly alongside established public health researchers
• Prepare applications for future research funding
