NEW ZEALAND PASSPORT APPLICATION PORTAL
The Department of Domestic Affairs issues New Zealand passports to citizens for use during foreign travel. Nearly 2.9 million New Zealand travel documents are now in use, which represents about 70% of the country’s total population.
TYPES OF NEW ZEALAND PASSPORT
- Ordinary passports: Issued to New Zealanders for regular travel, including vacations and business travels.
- Diplomatic Passport: Issued to ambassadors, high-ranking government officials, and diplomatic couriers from New Zealand. If a person is traveling for non-official or diplomatic purposes, they must use their regular passport, even if they have a diplomatic or official passport.
- Official Passport: Given to someone conducting official business on behalf of the New Zealand government. Officials are advised to use a regular passport whenever possible and to only apply for an official one in the event of hostilities or visa complications.
- Emergency Travel Document: Only issued for urgent travel
- Certificate of Identity: For foreigners living in New Zealand being unable to get a national passport, a certificate of identity is issued.
- Refugee Travel Document: Travel documents for refugees are given out when they are recognized in New Zealand.
PASSPORT VALIDATION PERIOD
A passport’s normal validity period is 5 years from the day it is issued or, if that happens first, until all of its sheets have been used. But once a passport has run out, there is no way to renew it; one must undoubtedly get a new one.
NEW ZEALAND PASSPORT ELIGIBILITY CRITERION
To qualify for a New Zealand passport;
- You must be a qualified citizen of New Zealand
- Besides that, if you were born abroad and at least one of your parents was a citizen of
- New Zealand at the time of your birth, you are a citizen of New Zealand by descent and can also apply. However, the first step in obtaining a New Zealand passport is to certify your citizenship.
