New Migration Skills Assessment for Foreign Health Workers in Australia.

Australia has made it harder for healthcare assistants from other countries to move there. The new test called the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) Skill Assessment, is meant to check the skills and experience of foreign healthcare assistants who want to work in Australia.

On June 14, 2023, the Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council of Australia began the migration skills assessment process. Applicants could then send in their documents to be looked at.

Eligibility Requirement for the ANMAC Skill Assessment

People who want to take the ANMAC Skill Assessment must have:

  • A minimum of two years of full-time work as a healthcare assistant in a regulated healthcare setting
  • Must have at least a Certificate III in a relevant field from overseas, such as nursing-related or aged care studies, OR at least 12 months of full-time paid work experience in a relevant field in Australia or overseas within the last 5 years, such as nursing-related or aged care work.
  • A relevant degree or certificate, like one in health care,
  • Having a good grasp of English.

If you meet the requirements and have your diplomas checked, you can start applying to care companies that sponsor visas. Companies like Baptist Care have more than 90 locations in Australia and can help people get visas.

Florence certificates can serve as a valuable asset for enhancing one’s curriculum vitae; however, it is important to note that they do not possess the capability to independently secure employment in Australia.

Applicants who successfully complete the ANMAC Skill Assessment will be awarded Skill Assessment Certificates. In order to submit an application for a Skilled Independent visa, which grants skilled individuals the opportunity to reside and engage in employment in Australia on a permanent basis, possession of the specified certificate is a prerequisite.

Nurses and midwives who want to work in Australia must register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and meet the NMBA’s standards for registration. Nurses and midwives who want to move to Australia may be asked to show proof that they are eligible to be registered with the NMBA.

The registration procedure with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) is distinct from the skilled migration process facilitated by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC).

The Australian government has implemented a novel migration skill assessment program for foreign healthcare assistants as a strategic measure to address the prevailing shortage of healthcare professionals within the nation. The government aspires that the implementation of the new assessment will facilitate the process for foreign healthcare assistants to migrate to Australia and engage in employment within the healthcare industry.

Furthermore, a professional reference from a nurse who has served as a supervisor during the individual’s tenure as a personal care assistant or nursing support officer is also necessary.
