POSITION: Back End Developer (Ruby)
Job Description
DevOps Africa Limited is currently searching for a talented and enthusiastic Backend Developer to become part of our team. The Backend Developer is tasked with designing, building, and improving the backend elements of APIs in our strong open-source technology ecosystem. This position requires creating and modifying server-side logic in alignment with strategic business goals, guaranteeing optimal performance and quick response to API requests. Moreover, the Backend Developer will offer essential backend technical assistance, tackling and solving intricate technical issues related to our API framework.
Duties and Responsibilities
The primary duties of this position consist of:
- Create and improve server services utilizing Ruby on Rails, aligning with our open source technology ecosystem.
- Develop and update backend (API) services according to specifications, making sure to follow design and architectural guidelines.
- Offer technical assistance for software, diagnosing problems, and applying resolutions.
- Leverage your knowledge of frameworks like Rails, including Django, Laravel, Spring Boot, Express, or Phoenix.
- Utilize standard development tools like Git and Jira for version control, issue tracking, and managing projects.
- Employ queuing and caching strategies to improve application efficiency.
- Utilize SQL and database design expertise to guarantee effective data storage and access.
- Work alongside the team to engage with the current codebase, preserving the existing design framework and upholding code quality.
- Adhere to Scrum principles while adjusting to evolving requirements and priorities.
- Assist the team and organization in developing small, deliverable sprints that provide incremental value.
- Participate actively in the Scrum process, recognizing and addressing obstacles to assist the team in reaching their objectives.
- Engage in company, department, and process modifications, playing an active role in their implementation and achievement.
- Promote the exchange of knowledge among team members and look for chances for personal and collective development.
- Guide and coach team members, imparting knowledge and promoting career development.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a similar discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
- 5-10 years of experience in software engineering, exhibiting strong expertise in frameworks akin to Ruby on Rails (e.g., Django, Laravel, Spring Boot).
- Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, ReactJS, Node.js, ExpressJS, and RESTful APIs.
- Familiarity with queuing and caching tools such as RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, and Redis.
- Expertise in SQL and database architecture, especially with MySQL/MariaDB.
- Thorough knowledge of Scrum concepts and agile practices.
- Outstanding problem-solving abilities, focus on details, and dedication to producing clean, maintainable, and efficient code.
- Strong communication abilities, along with the skill to give and receive feedback positively.
- A true desire to comprehend the operational processes and requirements of the product locations
