New Immigration Policy to Benefit 1,000 Out-of-Status Construction Workers

In 2019, IRCC and the Canadian Labor Congress (CLC) worked together to start a pilot permanent residency program for 500 undocumented workers in the construction sector in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

This pilot program has expanded to cover 1,000 more out-of-status construction workers in Canada. This program addresses the construction labor shortage and provides a road to permanent residency for undocumented workers in Canada.

Out-of-status construction employees must have at least two years of work experience in Canada and show their abilities and expertise to qualify for the program. Language and education requirements ensure workers can integrate into Canadian society and find work. This opportunity will assist cover the essential labour gap and give a pathway for these employees to earn permanent residency and contribute to the Canadian economy, benefiting both the workers and the construction sector.
