How to extend your stay in Canada
You have a job offer in Canada, but you don’t know how to stay longer or apply for legal residency. Know what you can do:
LABOUR MARKET IMPACT ASSESSMENT (LMIA)
LMIA is a process set up by your workplace that lets you get permission to apply for a new work permit in Canada or to extend the one you already have.
An LMIA application will make sure that the business and job offer are real and that the position needs to be filled by a foreign worker because no Canadian or permanent resident is as qualified as you to do the job.
After the company gets a positive LMIA decision, the worker can apply for a new work permit that is good for up to three years.
If your LMIA is good, it will also add up to 200 points to your Express Entry application for immigration.
GLOBAL TALENT STREAM
The Temporary Foreign Worker Program’s Global Talent Stream is an LMIA. It helps Canadian companies hire the best foreign workers when Canadians and permanent residents are unavailable. Tech workers and specialists use it.
You must have a job offer for a high-skilled job in the Global Talent Stream. Computer and information systems managers, programmers, analysts, IT consultants, computer technicians, software engineers, and web designers are examples.
Through this category, you should know that it also needs a minimum income (salary), which depends on your position and province of choice.
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)
Canada is made up of ten provinces and three regions, and each province has its own economic and geographical needs. The Provincial Nominee Programs are for people who have the skills, education, and work experience to help a province or territory’s economy and meet its unique needs.
Each province has its own set of programs, or “streams,” that are aimed at different groups of people and have different rules based on their needs.
Once you apply to move to a province through a Provincial Nominee Program, you must show that you want to live and work there.
Once a provincial government gives you the OK, you will get a nomination certificate. With this nomination, you can ask the Federal government of Canada to give you a final look.
