Nanny Visa Sponsorship in Canada | Immigrate to Canada For Nanny Jobs

Special immigration paths are available in Canada for people in specialized occupations. Nannies and caretakers are included. This information can help prospective nannies and caregivers who want to come to Canada, as well as employers who have employed them, understand the Caregiver Program Canada currently offers.

Nanny and Caregiver Sponsorship Programs

Nanny Sponsorship and Caregiver Sponsorship Canada are initiatives for overseas nannies and caregivers.

These programs permit exceptional foreign employees who qualify as caregivers to work in Canada.

Some of these workers may be able to petition for permanent residence and remain in Canada.

What are the programs available for foreign nannies?

Foreign nannies can come to Canada and work under any of the programs listed below, as long as they match the basic qualifications.

  • Pilot Programs for Home Child Care Providers and Home Support Workers Pilot Programs
  • Live-In Caretaker Program
  • In-Home Caregiver Programs
  • Interim Pathway for Caregivers

Prospective applicants should be aware that the applications for the Live-In Caregiver Program, In-Home Caregiver Program, and Interim Pathway for Caregivers Program are currently closed.

As a result, this guide will go over the qualifications and methods for both the Home Child Care Provider Pilot Program and the Home Support Worker Pilot Program.

Pilot Program Requirements for Home Child Care Providers/Home Support Workers

The Home Child Care Provider Pilot Program and the Home Support Worker Pilot Program both offer an immigration route for foreign carers and nannies with the necessary qualifications and experience.

The following are the current eligibility requirements:

1. Formal education

Applicants for caregiver and nanny positions must meet one of the following educational requirements:

  • Completion of a one-year or longer post-secondary education program in Canada.
  • Completion of foreign education comparable to the preceding prerequisite (This education must have been obtained within the last five years. Applicants must also provide a report on their Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).)

Those applying through the Home Child Care Provider Pilot must meet the work duties standards outlined in the National Occupation Code – NOC TEER Code 44100 under Home Child Care Providers.

Applicants applying through the Home Support Worker Pilot must meet the work duties standards outlined in NOC TEER Code 44101 for Home Support Workers.

Candidates will be categorized into one of two groups based on their level of work experience.

Category A

Caregiver applicants will be placed into this category if they have less than 12 months of recognized Canadian work experience (as of April 30, 2023) when they file their application for permanent residence.

These candidates will be issued an occupation-restricted work permit (OROWP) that will allow them to gain further work experience over the next 36 months. After gaining 24 months of recognized Canadian work experience, applicants can petition for permanent residence.

Categorization B

Applicants who have at least 12 months of recognized Canadian work experience (as of April 30, 2023) when they submit their application for permanent residency will be classified as Category B.

These candidates will be permitted to move on to the next stage of their immigration process if they can establish that they have earned job experience within the last 36 months.

Additional Requirements for Category-A Applicants

Category-A applicants must additionally have a legitimate employment offer and be able to demonstrate their capacity to perform their tasks as a nanny or caregiver.

Prospective businesses must complete a multi-stage process in order to hire caregivers from other countries. The following are included in this category:

  • Ensure that the caregiver meets the program’s minimum requirements.
  • Accepting to Provide the Correct Wages, Working Conditions, and Job Duties
  • Completing the Requirements for Recruitment and Advertising
  • Completing a Labor Market Impact Analysis
  • Post-LMIA Requirements

1. Ensuring that the caregiver meets the program’s minimum requirements.

The employer is responsible for ensuring that the position they offer satisfies the minimum requirements of the program. These requirements for eligibility are in relation to:

  • Language skills in English or French
  • Education, training, and experience are all important.
  • Occupation requirements that are regulated
  • Providing employment history
  • Proof of a person in need of care from a caregiver
  • Proof of residency
  • Proof of financial capability to pay the carer
  • Transportation and accommodation

2. Agreeing to Provide Fair Wages, Working Conditions, and Job Duties

Employers must agree to pay the caregiver a reasonable compensation based on the prevailing rate in their occupation and locality. They must also adhere to specific workplace regulations such as safety, breaks, vacation time, and overtime compensation.

3. Meeting the requirements for recruitment and advertising

Employers are required to provide evidence that they attempted to fill open positions with Canadian citizens and permanent residents but were unsuccessful in doing so due to a lack of suitable candidates.

4. Conducting a Labor Market Impact Analysis

Employers must then file a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) application and provide supporting documentation.

5. Requirements for Post-LMIA

Employers who are successful will receive a letter of recommendation from LMIA that is positive. They are then in a position to give the caregiver a copy of this document and request that they make use of it when applying for their work visa. After arriving in Canada, the caregiver will be able to start working there as a caregiver or nanny.
