Job Title: Head of Internal Audit

We are seeking an accomplished and strategic Head of Internal Audit to provide independent assurance to the Board of Directors of a leading luxury hotel in Accra.

You will evaluate the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and internal control systems across all hotel operations. Consequently, you will play a critical part in protecting assets, ensuring compliance, and strengthening the operational efficiency that underpins an exceptional guest experience.
Core Accountabilities
As Head of Internal Audit, you will lead the audit function with a risk-based approach. You will report directly to the Board, providing them with the objective insights they need to govern effectively. Your work will touch every department, from revenue management to procurement, from payroll to asset management. You will not just identify risks; you will recommend actionable strategies to mitigate them.
Your core accountabilities will include:
Strategic Leadership & Planning
- Develop a Comprehensive Audit Strategy: You will design and implement a forward-looking, risk-based internal audit plan that addresses the unique challenges of the luxury hospitality sector.
- Lead the Internal Audit Function: You will manage and develop the internal audit team, ensuring they have the skills and resources to execute the audit plan effectively.
- Promote a Culture of Accountability: You will champion transparency and continuous improvement across the organization. You will help embed ethical practices and strong internal controls into everyday operations.
Operational & Financial Assurance
- Evaluate Financial Controls: You will assess the effectiveness of financial controls, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all financial reporting.
- Oversee Critical Operational Audits: You will lead audits in key revenue-generating and cost-sensitive areas, including revenue management, procurement, inventory, payroll, and asset management.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: You will verify compliance with hospitality regulations, corporate policies, and statutory requirements. You will keep the organization ahead of regulatory changes.
Risk Management & Reporting
- Identify and Mitigate Risks: You will proactively identify financial, operational, and regulatory risks. Subsequently, you will recommend robust mitigation strategies to the Board and management.
- Prepare and Present Board-Level Reports: You will translate complex audit findings into clear, strategic recommendations. You will present these insights to the Board, enabling informed decision making.
- Coordinate with External Partners: You will liaise with external auditors and regulatory authorities, ensuring seamless coordination and alignment of assurance activities.
The Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for a leader who combines technical audit expertise with the poise and acumen to operate at Board level. You will have a strong presence, exceptional integrity, and a deep understanding of what makes a luxury hotel operate successfully.
To excel in this role, you will need:
Qualifications & Professional Standing
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
- A professional certification is required: CIA, ICA, CPA, ACCA, or an equivalent recognized credential.
Experience
- A minimum of 8 to 10 years of progressive experience in internal audit, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Prior experience in the hospitality sector, specifically within a luxury hotel environment, is a strong prerequisite. You understand the unique risks and operational nuances of this industry.
Technical & Leadership Skills
- Strong knowledge of internal controls, enterprise risk management frameworks, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Then, a demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities. You can build, motivate, and guide a high performing team.
