Tullow presents an exciting chance within the Operations M&I team. We seek a dynamic Rigging & Lifting Engineer to join us on a contractual basis in our Accra, Ghana office. Job fair
Objective of the Role
The Rigging & Lifting Engineer is tasked with delivering technical knowledge and assurance for all crane, rigging, and lifting activities throughout the asset. This involves establishing and executing maintenance and inspection plans for lifting equipment, guaranteeing adherence to regulatory mandates and industry standards, and offering technical guidance to offshore teams. The position guarantees that lifting tasks are carried out safely, efficiently, and economically, upholding the integrity and dependability of operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Care & Stability
- Establish and manage upkeep tasks for all stationary cranes, rigging, and hoisting apparatus.
- Serve as the equipment class owner for forklifts, cranes, and lifting equipment.
- Create, execute, and sustain maintenance plans, incorporating preventive schedules and documented inspection procedures in CMMS.
- Verify the correctness of work orders, spare parts, and equipment information in CMMS.
- Integrate inspection and incident results into CMMS toEnhance safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Establish and allocate inspection plans for all lifting devices and guarantee prompt implementation
Management of Vendors and Contractors
- Oversee contracts with third-party providers for lifting services and the acquisition of equipment.
- Supply technical expertise for tenders and contract assessments related to lifting services
- Collaborate with suppliers to examine lift strategies, staff qualifications, and accreditations.
- Oversee vendor performance of lifts, making sure they adhere to standards and best practices.
Technical Assurance and Compliance
- Offer assurance and technical assistance for lifting activities, guaranteeing adherence to standards (ABS, API RP 2D, LOLER, ISO, etc.).
- Coordinate with OIM and regulatory agencies to guarantee that lifting operations comply with global standards.
- Offer direction regarding the certification and testing prerequisites for all lifting machinery.
- Carry out audits and inspections to confirm adherence and pinpoint enhancements.
- Experience in creating and evaluating lifting personnel competency structures (riggers, crane operators, lifting authorities).
- Proven experience collaborating with regulators and classification agencies regarding inspections and certifications of lifting equipment.
- Skilled in performing lifting audits, risk assessments, and assurance evaluations in compliance with LOLER and company lifting criteria.
- Expertise in assessing lift engineering computations.
Operations and Assistance
- Offer technical assistance and supervision to Offshore Lifting Technical Authorities (OLTA) and Site Lifting Focal Points (SLFP).
- Assess engineering techniques and computations for intricate lifts and designed scaffolding.
- Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and additional teams to guarantee the safe and effective implementation of lifting activities.
- Assist rigging teams in establishing secure and efficient lifting methods.
HSEQ and Incident Oversight
- Follow HSE requirements without exception in all lifting and rigging operations.
- Create, execute, and uphold procedures for lifting, rigging, and crane operations.
- Encourage safe lifting techniques via education, awareness, and adherence to procedures.
- Engage in incident inquiries, offering technical insights, root cause assessment, and insights gained.
- Compile reports on lifting incidents and detected defects, suggesting corrective measures.
- Experience in directing technical responses to lifting equipment malfunctions or emergency scenarios offshore.
Leadership and Teamwork
- Serve as the central authority for lifting engineering knowledge throughout the asset.
- Develop strong collaborative relationships with onshore and offshore teams, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
- Coach and offer direction to offshore rigging and lifting crews to enhance skills and adherence.
Experience & Education
BSc/B.Tech in Engineering (Mechanical, Structural, or similar field)
Skills
- At least 10 years of experience in rigging and lifting activities in offshore or onshore construction, maintenance, and operations.
- Demonstrated experience as an Appointed Person or Lifting Engineer with the authority to authorize LOLER lift plans, including intricate lifts.
- Qualification as a Valid Competent Person from a recognized industry organization.
Certifications in:
- Inspection of Lifting Equipment
- Loft Management for Rigging
- Overseeing Tasks at Elevated Levels
- Fall Protection, Suspension & Recovery Gear
- Offshore certifications: BOSIET, MIST, current Offshore Medical.
- Extensive understanding of lifting regulations, standards, and codes (ABS, API RP 2D, LOLER, ISO, etc.).
- Proven capability to oversee secure lifting activities, supervise contractors, and ensure technical reliability.
- BOSIET certification needed for offshore travel as mandatory.
