Position Summary

UMAA is actively seeking a qualified and motivated Electrical Pump Fitter to join our Electrical Team. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to advance your career within underground electrical systems. Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Electrical Foreman, the successful applicant will handle the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electrical pump systems. These systems are vital to our mining operations. Therefore, we need a proactive individual who prioritizes safety and possesses solid experience with both electrical and mechanical pump systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pump Installation and Maintenance: Install, inspect, and maintain various pump types, including submersible, centrifugal, and diaphragm pumps. These systems are essential for moving water and slurry throughout the mine.
  • Equipment Setup: Set up pumps and associated equipment according to specific mining operation requirements.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance and preventive measures to minimize equipment downtime and extend machinery life.
  • Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose and repair pump systems along with related electrical circuits. Consequently, you will perform tasks such as replacing parts, rewiring, and system recalibration to ensure minimal operational disruption.
  • Diagnostic Testing: Use diagnostic tools and testing equipment to identify electrical or mechanical issues. You will test electrical components using multimeters, insulation testers, and other specialized tools.
  • Safety Compliance: Inspect and test electrical components to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational efficiency.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor system operations and performance reports, resolving issues quickly to prevent production delays.
  • Safety Protocols: Adhere strictly to all mining safety protocols and use proper personal protective equipment at all times. Furthermore, you will participate in safety meetings and actively contribute to a safe work environment.
  • Reporting: Complete various daily, weekly, and monthly reports as required by management.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Remain open to learning new methods while willingly sharing your skills and knowledge with coworkers.
  • Housekeeping: Maintain high standards of housekeeping in the workshop and at all job sites.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Educational Pathway 1: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering from a recognized university, coupled with a minimum of five years of experience working in a Hard Rock Underground Mine
  • Educational Pathway 2: Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, combined with a minimum of ten years of experience working in a Hard Rock Underground Mine.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Must be thoroughly familiar with the Mining Act and related regulations of the Republic of Ghana.
  • Licensing: Possess a valid Ghanaian driving and operating license covering Classes C and E. You must also demonstrate the ability to drive a manual SUV underground.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to handle equipment comfortably, work in confined spaces, and adapt to varying site conditions.
