POSITION: Forest Officer
The Institute of Green Growth Solutions is seeking a highly experienced Forest Officer to join our team. If you hold a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or Environmental Science, bring at least two years of proven forestry experience, and speak fluent Ewe, this role offers the opportunity to rebuild forest cover, improve soil health, strengthen climate resilience, and work directly with local communities.

Your Mission
You will lead and supervise reforestation projects aimed at restoring degraded landscapes and enhancing forest cover. Your role includes coordinating reforestation activities, ensuring appropriate species selection, and overseeing site preparation, planting, and maintenance. Additionally, you will monitor project progress, enforce environmental compliance, and promote sustainable land use practices. You will also work alongside local communities, stakeholders, and technical teams to safeguard biodiversity and support climate resilience across all project areas.
Key Responsibilities
Your role spans reforestation leadership, mangrove restoration, community engagement, monitoring, reporting, and team guidance. Here is what you will tackle:
Reforestation Leadership
- You will lead and supervise reforestation projects from start to finish, ensuring every phase aligns with ecological goals.
- Selecting appropriate tree species based on soil type, climate, and long term ecosystem recovery objectives.
- Overseeing site preparation, planting schedules, and maintenance activities to give young trees the best chance of survival.
Mangrove Restoration
- You will apply practical experience in mangrove restoration, including nursery establishment, site preparation, planting, and maintenance.
- Monitoring mangrove ecosystems to assess survival, growth, and ecological function in coastal zones.
Community Engagement
- You will work closely with local communities, stakeholders, and technical teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Using your fluency in Ewe to communicate directly with community members, understand local concerns, and build lasting partnerships.
Monitoring & Compliance
- You will track project progress, assess tree survival rates, and identify challenges before they become failures.
- Ensuring environmental compliance with all relevant regulations and promoting sustainable land use practices.
- Producing clear, actionable reports on project status, survival data, and lessons learned.
Team & Contractor Guidance
- You will guide field staff, contractors, and community groups, providing on the ground direction that ensures quality and consistency.
What You Bring to the Role
Qualifications & Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- A minimum of two years of proven experience as a Forest Officer or in a similar role within the forestry or environmental sector.
- Practical experience in mangrove restoration, including nursery establishment, site preparation, planting, maintenance, and monitoring.
Language & Community Skills
- Fluency in spoken Ewe, enabling you to engage directly with local communities without relying on interpreters.
- Strong interpersonal and community engagement skills, building trust and fostering collaboration.
Key Technical Competencies
- Strong knowledge of silviculture, species selection, and reforestation methods suited to different ecological zones.
- Ability to design, coordinate, and supervise reforestation activities effectively, managing multiple sites simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills for working with communities, partners, and field teams across cultural and language lines.
- Ability to track project progress, assess tree survival, and produce clear, evidence based reports.
- Experience guiding field staff, contractors, and community groups to ensure successful project delivery.
