POSITION: Defensive Driving Instructor

Do you have a background in security operations or emergency response? Are you passionate about sharing your expertise with others? If so, the Electronic Security Training Institute (ESTI) wants to hear from you. In partnership with Response One Ghana, we are seeking experienced and disciplined part-time instructors to lead an intensive one-month training program for Alarm Intervention (Rapid Response) Officers. This role offers a unique chance to shape the skills and mindset of security personnel using your real-world experience.

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a Defensive Driving Instructor to join our faculty. This position requires a professional who can deliver practical, hands-on training in a structured environment. You will not just teach theory; you will guide recruits through the realities of rapid response driving and vehicle safety. Consequently, your work will directly influence the professionalism and effectiveness of the officers we deploy.

Key Responsibilities

As our Defensive Driving Instructor, you will take ownership of the driving curriculum. Your primary duties will include:

  • Teaching Core Skills: You will instruct recruits on defensive driving fundamentals. This includes safe, rapid response techniques, comprehensive hazard awareness, and expert vehicle handling.
  • Conducting Evaluations: You will lead practical driving evaluations to assess each recruit’s skill level. Furthermore, you will enforce strict safety compliance during all driving exercises.
  • Ensuring Discipline: You will instill a sense of discipline and professional conduct in every trainee. Your example will set the standard for their behavior in the field.

What You Will Teach

The curriculum goes beyond just driving. You will integrate vehicle safety into a broader security context. Specifically, you will cover:

  • Operational standards for security personnel.
  • Effective communication and incident reporting protocols.
  • Alarm response fundamentals and dispatch procedures.
  • First aid and emergency response basics.
  • Vehicle response safety and tactical arrival procedures.
  • De-escalation techniques and scenario-based field drills.
  • Final assessments to ensure certification readiness.

Required Skills and Experience

To succeed in this role, you must combine practical field experience with a clear ability to teach. We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • Proven Field Experience: You must have a background in security operations, emergency response, military or police training, or structured guarding operations. Your real-world experience is your most valuable asset.
  • Driving Credentials: You need a valid driver’s license. A background in defensive driving training is also required. Experience training others, even informally, is a significant plus.
  • Teaching Ability: You must demonstrate the ability to teach clearly and manage a disciplined classroom and practical sessions. Recruits will look to you for guidance and authority.
  • Personal Integrity: You must possess strong personal integrity and professionalism. There is no room for compromise on these values. Consequently, all applicants must pass thorough background and reference checks.
  • Availability: You must be available for all practical sessions and assessments throughout the program.
  • Time Commitment: This is a part-time position spanning a four-week program. The schedule includes weekday sessions and weekend practicals. The exact timetable will be shared with selected instructors after the hiring process.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following qualifications will make your application stand out:

  • Prior experience as a driving instructor.
  • Formal certification in defensive driving techniques.
  • Previous experience training security or military personnel.
