POSITION: Mine Geologist
Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd operates a world-class multi-pit mining complex along the prolific Asankrangwa Gold Belt. The Role
We seek an experienced Mine Geologist who transforms raw geological data into actionable mining intelligence. This position sits at the heart of our Obotan Site operations, where you will directly influence ore quality, minimize dilution, and reduce ore losses through precise geological oversight.
Responsibilities
Production Alignment and Supervision
- Match geological activities with mining production requirements to consistently achieve short-term targets
- Supervise selective mining operations directly in the pit while overseeing all grade control drilling activities
- Design ore mark-outs for mining operations and create ore polygons that support effective mine planning
Collaboration and Reconciliation
- Partner with mining personnel to achieve grade targets, ore production goals, and grade control objectives
- Participate actively in Mine to Mill reconciliation processes that connect geological models with plant performance
- Support stockpile management activities while providing critical inputs for end-of-month reporting and reconciliation
Data Management and Quality Assurance
- Update, manage, and validate geological databases while maintaining rigorous QAQC standards
- Generate accurate ore polygons for mining operations and supervise ore extraction activities
- Prepare comprehensive monthly and quarterly grade control plans and reports
Field Operations and Safety
- Oversee grade control field activities including setup, drilling, sampling, and geological logging
- Monitor blasting activities using OrePro and BMT systems before and after blast events
- Perform additional duties as assigned by your Supervisor
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or Diploma in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a closely related field
- Minimum five years of practical experience in mine geology
- Excellent geological mapping capabilities
- Experience with geological block modelling for grade control purposes (MP3 experience preferred)
- Proficiency in geological and mining software including Surpac, Micromine, and AcQuire
- Knowledge of environmental and sustainability regulations governing mining operations
- Understanding of open-pit mining processes and methodologies
- Valid Ghanaian driving license
Essential Skills
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools for spatial analysis
- Strong analytical capabilities for interpreting geological and geochemical data
- Ability to optimize ore extraction strategies and refine grade control approaches
- Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, technical, and analytical skills
- Adaptability to embrace new technologies and innovative mining solutions
- Practical application of standards, methods, and procedures to work situations
