POSITION: Senior Mine Supervisor

Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd. (“AGGL”) is a joint venture of Galiano Gold Inc. and Gold Fields. The Multi-Pit Asanko Gold Mine complex in Ghana’s Ashanti Region serves as the company’s major asset. Galiano Gold Inc. manages and operates the Asanko Gold Mine.

Job Description.

Our Mining Department has an opening for the job of Senior Mine Supervisor.

JOB PURPOSE

To coordinate and control open pit and ore hauling activities and operations in order to meet short to medium-term production targets, as well as to detect and recommend intervention tactics for violations of safety/mining rules in all operational areas of the mine.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure employee health and safety by adhering to all company safety standards and national regulatory obligations.
• Ensure that personal protective equipment is easily available, maintained, and used properly at all times.
• Supervise and organize open pit activities such stripping, drilling, blasting, and loading, among others.
• Liaise and coordinate the actions of the Planning and Production departments to ensure that production targets are met as intended.
• Create, review, and execute Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all mining-related operations and activities.
• Conduct daily pre-shift briefings to ensure that personnel are thoroughly informed about all safety and production updates and issues.
• Ensure that mine water abstraction stations for dust suppression are always available for use.
• Supervise the mining contractor to deliver maximum pit performance and any auxiliary tasks;
• Assist the mine foreman in efficiently supervising the ore haulage contractors to reach their targets.
• Assist the Mine Foreman in ensuring all mine access roads are well maintained.
• Ensure that the rental equipment hours of work are appropriately recorded.
• Assist with work scheduling and planning by offering job-specific instructions on a daily basis and tracking progress.
• Regularly interact with the Mine Manager and other supervisors to confirm production targets.
• Develop and implement on-the-job training interventions for minefield crews to increase their abilities and stay up to date with modern techniques.
• Train and mentor newly hired production workers on ore spotting, ROMPAD management, reconciliation programs, and other best industry practices.
• Ensure that all mining activities are appropriately recorded and reported by the Mine Supervisors at the end of each shift.
• Report all accidents and events, including near misses, during the shift. Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required Skill or Experience

Knowledge

• Must hold at least a Diploma in Mining Engineering from a recognized academic school.
• A Mine Captain Certificate issued by the Mines Inspectorate of the Minerals Commission of Ghana would be an added benefit.
• Must have a minimum of four (4) years of post-qualification work experience as a shift supervisor or mine foreman in an open pit mining environment with demonstrable leadership skills;
• Working knowledge of the Mining Act and related regulations of the Republic of Ghana, with the ability to interpret and apply these laws and regulations;
• Strong knowledge and grasp of key Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and statutory requirements;
• Strong computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
• Willingness and competence to conduct fieldwork in a severe mining environment;
• Must be a results-driven and action-oriented person;
• Must have a valid Ghanaian licence, at least five (5) years of driving experience, and the ability to drive in tough terrain.
