POSITION: Human Resource Coordinator
AECI is seeking a Human Resource Coordinator to join our team. If you hold a BSc degree in Human Resource, Business Administration, or Social Sciences, bring at least two years of HR experience in a mining or explosives environment, and understand local labour legislation, this role offers the opportunity to support the backbone of our operations: our people.

As HR Coordinator, you will support the human capital that powers this innovation.
Your Mission
You will ensure the effective implementation of the Company’s medical aid administration and all other employee benefits. Your role spans screening and advising on medical claims, validating employee requests for loans and bursaries, managing CSR initiatives, maintaining confidential records, and supporting employee engagement activities. You will also act as a reliever for talent management, payroll, training, and employee relations colleagues, ensuring continuous business operations.
Key Responsibilities
Your role spans benefits administration, record keeping, employee support, and cross functional backup. Here is what you will tackle:
Medical Aid & Benefits Administration
- You will properly screen and advise healthcare and insurance service providers on all medical invoices and claims, presenting verified claims for approval by the Human Capital manager.
- Screening and advising employees on all medical claims ensures they understand their coverage and receive timely reimbursements.
- Validating employee requests for loans, bursaries, letters, and all forms of employee assistance before presenting them for management approval ensures compliance with company policies.
CSR & Record Keeping
- You will assist in developing, implementing, and managing the Company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, focusing on business catchment communities.
- Providing effective record keeping and filing services within HR administration ensures confidentiality and easy information retrieval for management decision making.
- Ensuring documents comply with HR policies and legal requirements protects the company and its employees.
Employee Support & Engagement
- You will provide frontline support for employee inquiries, escalating issues when required.
- Processing staff requests such as letters, certifications, and employment confirmations keeps employees informed and supported.
- Supporting leave administration and maintaining accurate leave databases prevents conflicts and ensures compliance.
- Assisting in organizing employee engagement activities and HR events builds a positive workplace culture.
Reporting & Backup
- You will produce reports on all areas in a timely manner, ensuring credible information for audit processes and management decision making.
- Acting as a reliever for the officer responsible for talent management and payroll, as well as the superintendent responsible for training and employee relations, demonstrates your versatility and ensures continuous operations.
What You Bring to the Role
We are looking for a candidate with the right education, experience, and competencies. Here is what you need:
Knowledge & Experience
- A minimum of a BSc degree in Human Resource, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Arts, or an equivalent field.
- At least two years of experience in a Human Resource or related administrative role, ideally within a mining or explosives environment.
- Professional qualification or training in HR or benefits administration.
- A good understanding of HR management concepts.
- Understanding of the end to end employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, and termination procedures.
- Good understanding of local labour legislation on occupational health and employee healthcare.
- Conversant with relevant HR or payroll software such as SAP.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal and diplomatic skills.
