Job Description
THE GOVERNING COUNCIL of Valley View University (VVU) declares that the role [td_smart_list_end]of VICE-CHANCELLOR will be open as of January 1, 2026.
THE COLLEGE
VVU was founded in 1979 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and is now part of a global network of more than 118 Adventist colleges and universities. In 1995, VVU became affiliated with Griggs University in Silver Springs, Maryland, USA, enabling it, then Valley View College, to provide four-year degree programs.
The National Accreditation Board, now known as the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), accredited the university to function in 1995. In 2006, VVU received chartered status from the Government of Ghana to confer its own degrees, becoming the first chartered private university in the country. Today, VVU confers terminal degrees. The Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA) and the International Board of Education (IBE) have also granted accreditation to the university. VVU presently offers high-quality education and instruction in a supportive Christian setting to learners from Ghana and other African nations.
THE ROLE
- The Executive Head of the University, the Vice-Chancellor, holds responsibility and accountability to the University’s Governing Council for both the Institution’s Academic and Administrative functions.
- He/she is tasked with the duty of managing the university to fulfill its mission, ensure academic excellence, maintain fiscal integrity, uphold spiritual values, and enhance market viability and competitiveness.
- He/she is also tasked with launching new paths in the university’s academic growth and with executing the university’s Strategic Plan.
- The Chief Disciplinary Officer of the University is the Vice-Chancellor, who carries out general disciplinary responsibilities for both staff and students, in accordance with the University’s Statutes and Regulations as well as the Laws of Ghana.
Required Qualifications & Experience
THE INDIVIDUAL
- Should possess a terminal degree and ideally have a professorial title, while also comprehending and explicitly exhibiting the Adventist Philosophy of Education;
- Should be a notable academic with the ability to inspire and guide both faculty and staff;
- Should be forward-thinking, commercially oriented, and able to build connections between the industry, other universities, and VVU for shared objectives;
- Required to possess at least five years of full-time professional experience in Adventist higher education, with a minimum of two years in the role of dean of a college/faculty/school at an Adventist institution;
- Should possess the ability to gather funds and additional resources for the University’s research and various development initiatives;
- Should possess a solid grasp of the latest advancements and trends in higher education in Ghana and globally;
- Should comprehend and demonstrate the managerial and leadership abilities necessary for effectively managing an academic institution;
- Should possess a solid and comprehensive understanding of, along with a demonstrated history of effectively managing academic institutions or similar organizations;
- Should be a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in good standing;
- The age of applicants cannot exceed 60 years.
- He/she should be familiar with and prepared to adhere to the WAD Working Policy for education and GTEC’s standards.
CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT
- The position is full-time and will last for FIVE (5) YEARS initially, with the possibility of renewal for an additional five (5) years, contingent on outstanding performance (following a performance evaluation) and age requirements.
