POSITION: Senior Technical Officer
Job Description
The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) is looking for a skilled technical expert to help its Energy Service Centre (ESC) manage projects and provide renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) advice and technical services to clients.
The Senior Technical Officer will closely work with the ESC team and sector stakeholders. He/she will oversee and assist the Technical Officer (1) and report to the Chief Technical Officer of AGI-ESC.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Overall task
- Support AGI-ESC’s operations to improve its service offerings and generate revenue through its projects.
General tasks
- Enhance the capabilities of commercial and industrial companies (C&I) in planning their renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) investments.
- Create, organize, and provide technical and advisory services and training for C&I and service providers in the sector.
- Coordinate with project partners, donors, and other stakeholders in designing and executing projects.
- Help in structuring and modifying AGI-ESC’s technical activities/services/trainings and other products to promote the services to current and potential clients.
- Assist with any other tasks assigned by AGI-ESC and AGI.
Client Acquisition (C&I)
- Through personal selling and direct marketing efforts.
- Drafting agreements and contracts.
Project Implementation
- Conduct and/or oversee RE feasibility studies and EE audits at C&I facilities.
- Transaction advisory: Helping companies realize their projects through tenders, etc.
- Owner’s engineering: Ensuring quality control of third-party project implementers.
- Prepare relevant reports for clients, AGI, donors, and other project partners.
Training and Other Activities
- Assist in designing, preparing, and implementing training, workshops, seminars, and other events.
Monitoring
- Regularly update monitoring datasheets for the services offered and implement recommendations from ESCs (such as energy audits, feasibility studies, etc.).
- Provide information to relevant donors upon request.
Financing support
- Assist the AGI-ESC in finding financing opportunities for renewable energy and energy efficiency investments and facilitate communication between project owners and financial institutions.
Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in renewable energy, electrical or electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Membership in the Ghana Institution of Engineering or a similar professional organization is preferred.
- 5 years of experience in the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency sector.
- 3 years of experience in Project Development with donor organizations.
- Strong technical knowledge in energy efficiency, renewable energy, climate change, and sustainability.
- Experience in training others.
- Familiarity with innovative financing concepts (such as contracting/ESCO models, lease-to-own, crowdfunding) for renewable energy and energy efficiency in both public and private sectors.
Competencies & Skills:
- Excellent working knowledge of ICT technologies and office software (like Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Experience with renewable energy and energy efficiency design software, such as AutoCAD, RETScreen, PV Syst, and HelioScope.
- Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
- Experience working in an intercultural environment is a plus.
- A team player with the ability to work independently, proactive, and self-motivated.
- Willingness to enhance skills as needed for the tasks at hand – relevant measures will be discussed with management.
Start Date: 15th September 2025
Contract Type & Duration: Full-Time, 2 years with a possibility of extension
