POSITION: MTC Teacher
Position Overview
This role is essential to the missionaries’ mission to ‘Encourage others to come unto Christ by assisting them in receiving the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the Holy Ghost, and persevering until the end.’ Teachers serve as initial support-level contributors who assist in training missionaries across diverse settings and subjects. Training could involve language proficiency, gospel principles/Preach My Gospel education, and the enhancement of missionary skills. Educators can prepare both junior and senior missionaries prior to their arrival at the MTC, during their time at the MTC, and after they have left the MTC. They adhere to a sanctioned curriculum and might be chosen to engage in pilots and initiatives.
Duties
- Answers to the trainer or supervisor position in the Training department.
- Offers guidance, advice, support, and evaluation to missionaries in various training formats: individual coaching, small group discussions, large group seminars, and overseeing Canvas engagement and conversation forums.
- Designs and organizes lessons in accordance with the approved curriculum alongside a partner teacher (when relevant) to address the missionary’s needs.
- Guides missionaries in organizing and managing their educational efforts.
- Executes guidance and training provided by the Teacher Trainer/Supervisor, Training Manager, and Senior Training Manager.
- Participates in weekly training sessions and engages in co-teacher meetings.
- Supports regional leadership in collaborating with mission and Missionary Department leaders, as needed.
- Updates leadership on the requirements and advancement of delegated tasks.
- Trains missionaries for and throughout practice and real lessons.
- Could be requested to help evaluate the language skills of missionary and teacher candidates in the target language.
- Might assume extra duties as an Actor to portray a non-member eager to understand The Church of Jesus Christ.
- Can accept extra duties as a Training Area Assistant, if time permits.
- Could involve additional temporary responsibilities at the MTC (e.g., supporting the Mission Leadership Seminar)
Qualifications
Required:
- Should be a returned missionary who has come back within the last 12 months.
- Proficient in designated second language (for language instruction roles) French, English, Amharic, Swahili, Portuguese
- Exceptional coaching, facilitation, and training talents and capabilities
- Familiarity with and comprehension of Preach My Gospel
- Outstanding interpersonal, prioritization, professionalism, and leadership abilities.
- Driven by personal initiative and capable of collaborating effectively with others
- Open to receiving and applying suggestions
- Knowledge of successful language acquisition methods (for teaching language roles)
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
- Capability to convey information (orally and in writing) in English and a secondary language (for teaching roles; non-verbal communication for ASL educators)
- To effectively carry out the key responsibilities of the position, there might be physical demands that must be fulfilled, such as remaining seated or upright for extended durations and operating screens/devices.
Preferred:
- Experience in tutoring or teaching in an MTC classroom
- Familiarity with virtual communications such as chat, video calls, and more
