IRCC Reveals PGP 2023 Intake for Canadian PR: Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship

The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) for 2023 has recently received significant revisions from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Canadian citizens and permanent residents can use this scheme to sponsor their parents and grandparents for immigration to Canada.

The Parents and Grandparents Program, as the name implies, is intended to offer permanent residency to your parents and grandparents if you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and meet certain income requirements.

Historically, IRCC has altered its application process for this program on a yearly basis, resulting in a variety of selection procedures, including first-come, first-served, and lottery-based approaches. However, let us concentrate on the most recent updates for 2023.

Update for PGP 2023

The IRCC has come to the conclusion that they will not be releasing a new expression of interest form or accepting new applications in the year 2023. This decision was reached after considering a number of factors. In its place, invitations will be handed out to the approximately 24,200 prospective sponsors who filled out interest forms in the year 2020. At the very least 15,000 applications for permanent residency that are completed in their entirety are anticipated to be submitted to us.

The Internal Revenue Service will not be opening new forms for new applicants in 2023 as it has in previous years because there is currently a backlog of applications from the 2020 pool. This stands in contrast to the practice that was previously followed of doing so. since this modification to the plan, we will be able to ensure that all of the individuals who have expressed interest in the year 2020 will have the chance to submit their applications since we will be able to change the strategy accordingly.

Check Your Eligibility

You need to check the email address that you provided in 2020 if you submitted an interest-to-sponsor form in 2020 but did not receive an invitation to apply in 2021 or 2022. It’s possible that you can still submit an application in 2023.

The Application Procedure

If you are invited to apply as part of the 2023 intake, you can electronically submit your applications through either the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal to speed up the process. If you are invited to apply, you will be notified of this invitation.

Plan for Immigration Levels

An annual compilation and publication of an updated version of Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan is under the purview of the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Commission of Canada (IRCC), which is accountable for these responsibilities. This publication gives a summary of the department’s main immigration-related priorities, and it is available for download here. In addition to the objective of admitting 28,500 parents and grandparents by the year 2023, the target number of new permanent residents to be accepted into Canada is set at a total of 465,000.

It is the intention of the Canadian government to raise the target number of entrants to 500,000 by the year 2025; however, only 36,000 of those places will be set aside for individuals’ parents and grandparents. Because of this, the overall number of new people moving to the country will reach its maximum potential.

Alternatives to PGP 2023

There are alternatives worth examining for persons who cannot wait for permanent residence or who desire to explore other choices.

Parental Super Visa

A type of visa known as the “Super Visa” makes it possible for parents and grandparents to get temporary residency in the United States. Although it does not offer permanent residency, it does permit longer stays of up to five years in a row, with the option of extending them for an additional two years each time. In addition, it allows for the possibility of further extensions. Because of this, it is now feasible to conduct lengthier visits with the intention of reconciling families.

  • Extensions Available: If you already have a Super Visa, you may be able to apply for an extension that allows you to stay in Canada as a guest for up to seven years.
  • No Lottery: There is no lottery for the Super Visa, unlike the PGP scheme. It is available all year, giving people looking to sponsor a parent or grandparent more confidence.

Eligibility for a Special Visa

  • An applicant must meet the following conditions to be eligible for the Super Visa:
  • You must be the parent or grandfather of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Not be barred from entering Canada for criminal or health reasons.
  • Show that you can meet the income limitations set by the Low-Income Cut Off (LICO).
  • Provide a signed letter from their kid or grandchild welcoming them to Canada, together with a pledge of financial support for the duration of the visit and a list of the persons in the family.
  • Show proof of medical insurance coverage from a Canadian insurance company for at least one year.

Application for Humanitarian and Compassionate Grounds (HNC)

An individual has the chance to be exempted from certain restrictions that are associated with permanent residency if they submit an application for the HNC. These exemptions can be justified on the basis of humanitarian considerations. It is a resource that can be utilized in the event that you no longer qualify for the conventional programs that were previously made available to you in the event that you are no longer eligible for those traditional programs.

It is a resource that can be utilized in the event that you no longer qualify for the traditional programs that were previously made accessible to you. On the other side, you should be aware that submitting an application for an HNC could be difficult and has a lower probability of getting approved. This is something you should be prepared for. You won’t want to be taken aback by this, so make sure you’re well prepared.
