IRCC invites 1,800 Candidates in its Third Express Entry Draw
1800 candidates have been invited to IRCC’s third Express Entry draw of this week. The selection process primarily targeted candidates who were fluent in French. Candidates were required to have a minimum CRS score of 400 to be considered.
In addition, the minimum CRS score needed for an Express Entry draw is one of the lowest this year. During a recent draw, 6,300 candidates in the Canadian Experience Class were invited. This draw had the lowest score requirement of any non-category-based selection draw, with a minimum score of 515.
This week, the IRCC conducted a draw exclusively for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), where they extended invitations to 1,391 applicants who had a minimum CRS score of 670. A selection draw held on July 8 invited 3,200 candidates based on their French proficiency.
Express Entry draws that include Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nominations usually have higher Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores. This is because PNP nominations contribute an additional 600 CRS points. As an example, if a candidate in the Express Entry pool receives a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nomination, their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 300 would increase their total CRS to 900.
This month has seen a significant increase in Express Entry activity, as the IRCC has issued a total of 19,161 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) through seven separate draws.

An Overview of Canada’s Express Entry System
Introduced in January 2015, Canada’s Express Entry system was designed to simplify and streamline the immigration selection process for skilled professionals. The points-based system evaluates candidates by considering factors such as education, work experience, language proficiency, and other pertinent attributes.
The Express Entry system encompasses three federal immigration programs. These programs are the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), which caters to individuals in professional, managerial, technical, or trade occupations; the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), designed for those with a minimum of two years of experience in a skilled trade and requiring a valid job offer or certificate of qualification; and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), tailored for individuals who have worked in a skilled job in Canada for at least one year and are seeking to apply for immigration.
Applicants begin by creating an online profile that includes their educational history, work experience, language skills, and other personal information. The CRS score is determined by various factors such as age, education, work experience, and proficiency in both French and English. In addition, the score has a maximum of 1,200 points. Provincial nominations, valid job offers, and Canadian qualifications are given additional points. Applicants who rank highly in the Express Entry pool receive an invitation from the IRCC to apply for permanent residence.
Provinces and territories can also nominate candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), which improves CRS scores by 600 points. The IRCC also draws for specific language or skill sets. The 2024 draws chose several applications for healthcare, PNP, French language proficiency, and the Canadian Experience Class.
Canada’s ability to attract talented labour, preserve cultural variety, and boost economic growth depends on this system.
Overview of Category-Based Selection Draws
In 2023, the IRCC implemented category-based selection to more effectively identify Express Entry candidates who can address immediate workforce shortages or contribute to specific demographics in Canada. In addition, this approach consists of six categories: healthcare jobs, STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), trades (carpenters, plumbers, contractors), transportation, jobs in agriculture and agri-food, and jobs that require fluency in French. These divisions aim to stimulate economic growth by tackling major labour shortages.
