IRCC Good News! Canada Student Visa 2023 – PTE & TOFEL for SDS & New Rules | Canada Immigration

4 new English language examinations are approved by the IRCC for the Student Direct Stream (SDS). Obtain all the knowledge fully covered in this article.

The results of new language examinations will be accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for candidates to the Student Direct Stream (SDS). With effect from August 10, 2023, IRCC will start accepting test results from these for new tests. The new tests that are eligible are;

  1. CELPIP General
  2. CAEL
  3. PTE Academic
  4. TOEFL IBT Test

Results from every test must show proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

  • The Canadian Language Benchmark on the CELPIP General exams with a score of a minimum of 7 in each one of the four language-speaking categories.
  • Also, results from the academic CAEL and Pearson PTE tests must indicate a minimum score of 60.
  • Likewise, a score of 83 required on the TOEFL IBT tests given by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

These tests must be taken on-site by the students. Prior to this change, applicants in the SDS can not take online, remotely proctored exams. Only the IELTS General and IELTS Academic examinations were accepted by IRCC for SDS candidates.

What is the SDS?

Students from particular nations can expedite the processing of their study permits through the SDS. Legal citizens of the following countries qualify as eligible students:

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Brazil
  • China
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • India
  • Morocco
  • Pakistan
  • Peru
  • Philippines
  • Senegal
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • Vietnam

A 20-day service requirement exists. Canada for all applications for study permits that qualify for SDS. The SDS was introduced in 2018 and is especially well-liked by international students from India.

Who is Eligible for the SDS?

  • Students who meet this requirement must also present a copy of their acceptance letter from a Canadian Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and be legal residents of one of the above countries.
  • Next, provide proof of the applicant’s initial medical examination.
  • Also, evidence that they have acquired a $10,000 Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC).
  • Similarly, show payment of the first year’s tuition.
  • Additionally, provide evidence of language test results showing an IELTS score of 6 in English or an NCLC 7 in French completed within two years of receiving the SDS application.
  • Last but not least, present the application at a VAC.

Several national and international factors have contributed to the quadrupling of the number of international students in Canada since 2008.
