New Zealand Skilled Migrant Visa | Easy Route to Permanent Residency 2023

Did you know that obtaining a resident visa and maintaining your presence in New Zealand for at least two years are prerequisites for applying for permanent resident status there? Similar to Canada’s express entry system, the residency visa is a points-based system that may have applied for straight from your home country.

Everything you need to know concerning the resident visa and permanent residency visa for New Zealand gets covered in this post.

Resident Visa vs Permanent Resident Visa

A permanent resident visa and a New Zealand resident visa are two different things. Both of these visas would let you live permanently in New Zealand, however, the resident visa has a temporal limit on how often you can enter and leave the country. Typically, this period lasts between two and ten years, after which you must decide whether to stay or leave New Zealand.

There are no such travel limits for permanent residence visas as long as the passport upon which your visa was officially stamped is still valid. To become a permanent resident of New Zealand, you must first obtain a resident visa from your place of origin, go there, live and work there for two years, and then apply.

What are the Requirements?

  • The first and most important requirement is that you must have maintained your resident visa for at least two years before applying.
  • Also, a resident visa is necessary when applied for via the correct stream. The stream for which immigrants most usually apply is the Skilled Migrant category.
  • Applications for the Skilled Migrant Visa category are submitted using the Expression of Interest (EOI) application process, which is a points-based system where points are claimed under several categories.
These prerequisites include things like age, educational background, expertise, and a job contract from New Zealand.
  • Despite just needing an IELTS CLB of 6.5, you should take a language test. IELTS is accepted in both its general training and academic forms, as are several other language tests, including the TOELF, PTA academic, CPE by Cambridge, and the OET.

Educational Requirements

  • Contrary to Canada, an ECA from WES is not required if your qualifications are acknowledged from the compilation of qualifications excluded from the examination. On the webpage for the skilled immigrant visa, you can see this list.
  • For individuals whose qualifications aren’t included, you require an evaluation by a New Zealand licensing authority. This can again get on this page.

Application Process

  • Candidates must first create an online Expression of Interest (EOI), similar to Canada.
Following this, depending on the information they gave, applicants receive Invitations to Apply (I.T.As) for their resident visa.
  • In contrast to Canada, the number of points is irrelevant provided you can score 180. However, in New Zealand, one can obtain the maximum points for the chronological factor up to the age of 39. In contrast to Canada, you only permitted to do so up until the age of 29.
  • Additionally, a fee of $530 required to file an EOI. If you don’t receive an I.T.A. within the six-month validity period of this EOI, you’ll need to submit another one.
  • In addition, by meeting all requirements with a score exceeding 180, you receive an I.T.A. by mail in 2 to 4 weeks. You must submit all necessary documentation and the resident visa application fee to receive an I.T.A.
  • The selection of your EOIs for an I.T.A. normally occurs between 2 to 4 weeks of the EOI drawings. However, this draw conducts every 2 weeks. You will only have four months to finish your application after receiving an I.T.A.
  • Once you get a resident visa, you are free to go to New Zealand, remain there, and work there. You can seek permanent residency after two years.
