International Student Fellowship Program TWAS-ICCBS 2023

TWAS-ICCBS Postgraduate Fellowship Program 2023 for International Students applications are now being accepted.

Description of the scholarship:

TWAS has partnered with the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), which includes the Dr. Panjwani Centre for Molecular and Drug Research and the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry in Karachi, Pakistan, to offer fellowships to aspiring scientists from developing countries (outside of Pakistan).

These fellowships are designed to assist candidates for PhDs in their pursuit of research in the biological and chemical sciences.

A preliminary acceptance letter should be requested well in advance, even before the official call for applications, by prospective applicants. It is crucial to remember that only acceptance letters sent out in the same calendar year as the application year will be accepted.

A two-page curriculum vitae (CV), a copy of their most recent degree, and a minimum of two recommendation letters—preferably one from their current supervisor—are required of applicants in order to receive an acceptance letter.

Program Information

For those pursuing a Ph.D. in the fields of organic chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular medicine, pharmacology, physical chemistry, or analytical chemistry, the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), which includes the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry and the Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular and Drug Research, offers TWAS-ICCBS Postgraduate Fellowships.

To qualify for the fellowship, candidates must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program in their home nation (SANDWICH option).

The maximum duration of the fellowship will be decided in agreement with ICCBS, with a minimum duration of 6 months.

• The ICCBS will offer a monthly stipend to help with living costs such as housing, food, local transportation, and minor medical requirements.
• The stipend is not transferable into foreign money.
• English is the language of instruction for the fellowship.

Benefits of the scholarship

• A maximum length of one year will be decided with ICCBS, with a minimum of six months possible.
• A monthly stipend from ICCBS should be used to pay for living expenses like food, lodging, local transportation, and unforeseen minor illnesses. There will be no currency exchange for the monthly payment.

Nationalities that qualify:

All nationalities of overseas students are eligible for this fellowship.

Eligibility Requirements

Candidates for these fellowships must fulfill the requirements listed below:

• Have reached the age of 35 at the latest on December 31 of the application year.
• Be citizens of a developing country (other than Pakistan); 3. have a Master’s degree in an area of the natural sciences;
• Be ineligible for any visa allowing for either temporary or permanent residence in Pakistan or any other developed nation;
• Present a medical professional’s certification of good health; be enrolled as Ph.D. students in their home country; and present the “Registration and No Objection Certificate” from the HOME university (see example);

NETHERLANDS’ ORANGE KNOWLEDGE PROGRAM 2023–24 (ROUND 2)

• Submit an official Preliminary Acceptance Letter from ICCBS (download a sample preliminary acceptance letter below, or attach it to your application). The Director of ICCBS (Prof. M.I. Choudhary at iqbal.choudhary@iccs.edu, hej@cyber.net.pk, pcmd@cyber.net.pk, or protocol.iccbs@iccs.edu), who will assist the assignment of a host supervisor, must receive requests for acceptance. Candidates must send a copy of their CV, a summary of their research project, two reference letters, and a request for a preliminary acceptance letter to Prof. Choudhary;
• When applying for a fellowship, candidates must meet the following requirements:
• Demonstrate English language proficiency if it was not their primary language of instruction
• Guarantee they will return to their home country after receiving the award;
• Refrain from taking on additional work during the fellowship; and
• Be financially responsible for any accompanying family members.

Application Process:

• The last day to submit applications is June 30, 2023, at midnight CEST.
• Candidates must present an ICCBS acceptance letter at the time of application, or by the deadline at the latest. The application won’t be taken into consideration for selection without preliminary acceptance.
• Reference letters must be signed and printed on letterhead.
• Please be aware that applicants may only apply for one TWAS and OWSD portfolio program per calendar year. In that year, applicants are ineligible to participate in the TWAS Visiting Professor programs at any other university. One exception: The institution’s head may still apply for another program even if he or she asks an outside scholar to offer their expertise as part of the TWAS Visiting Professor programs.
