The Department of Health, Sport, and Human Physiology at The University of Iowa is seeking a full-time Instructor specializing in Anatomy laboratory courses. This is a one-year, non-tenure-track academic appointment beginning in August 2026, with the possibility of renewal.

The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced human anatomy laboratory courses while supporting students through office hours, laboratory meetings, grading, and close collaboration with course supervisors and instructional staff. The position follows a flexible schedule based on assigned laboratory sessions and departmental responsibilities rather than standard office hours.

Job Duties

  • Teach introductory and advanced human anatomy laboratory courses.
  • Lead multiple anatomy laboratory sections throughout the academic year.
  • Hold regular office hours to provide academic support for students.
  • Attend and lead laboratory meetings with instructional staff.
  • Grade laboratory assignments, practical examinations, and coursework.
  • Communicate professionally with students and members of the instructional team.
  • Collaborate closely with course supervisors and laboratory support staff to ensure effective laboratory instruction.
  • Support the efficient delivery of anatomy laboratory courses within the Health, Sport, and Human Physiology curriculum.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with dissection-based anatomy laboratory courses.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.
  • Willingness to work with human anatomical specimens.
  • Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with human dissection laboratories is desirable.
  • Experience with upper-level anatomy courses or equivalent coursework is preferred.
  • Previous teaching or laboratory instruction experience in science-based courses is advantageous.
