How to Calculate Electricity Bill in Ghana
Electricity is defined as the flow of electrical power or charge. It is generated by converting other sources of energy such as coal, natural gas, nuclear power, and other natural sources.
Electricity has become a part of our everyday life. Almost everything we use requires the use of electricity to power it. From our kitchen to our living room and our mobile phones require the use of electricity.
In Ghana, the institution responsible for power supply is the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)
Is Electricity Expensive In Ghana?
When we compare Ghana’s tariff to some west African countries, we can say that power is expensive in Ghana. For example, Ghana’s tariff averages 15.5 cents per kilowatt versus 10.5 cents per kilowatt.
How Is Electricity Consumption Calculated In Ghana?
You can calculate power consumption by multiplying the wattage by the number of hours used. Ghana’s tariff is at 59.2%. This is a breakdown of how to calculate your bill
- If your consume between 0 and 50 units, then your bill will increase from 21p to 34p.
- Also, If your use between 51 to 300 unit bracket, then your bill is increased from 42p to 67p.
- If you consume between 301 to 600 units, your tariffs will increase from 55p to 87p.
- Finally, if you use above 600 units then your tariffs will increase from 61p to 97p.

- Daily Power Consumption.
Daily Power Consumption = Wattage rating x time in hours. 4000 Watts x 4Hrs = 16000 Watts-Hour.
- Monthly Power Consumption.
Monthly Power Consumption = Wattage rating x time in hours. 3000 Watts x 4 Hrs x 30 days = 360000 Watts-Hour.
