Summary of Employment
To enhance the strategic involvement and expansion of the bank’s connections with Financial Institutions (FIs), such as Banks, Non-Bank Financial Institutions (NBFIs), Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), Insurance Companies, Pension Funds, and other institutional clients.
This position entails discovering new business prospects, strengthening current partnerships, and establishing the bank as a favored partner in both local and global financial markets.
The main goal is to enhance sustainable risk-adjusted portfolio contribution by means of strategic relationship management, cross-selling products, and overseeing risk.
The employee will also be accountable for business development with new clients as well as with their current portfolio.
Position Overview
Sales and Support
Duration Distribution: 60%
- Establish and nurture robust connections with local and global banks, non-bank financial institutions, insurance firms, and various financial organizations.
- Comprehend clients’ requirements and deliver customized banking solutions to fulfill their treasury, trade, and investment needs.
- In collaboration with CCM, perform an annual assessment of customers’ borrowing facilities, along with an interim review if the customer’s situation (risk profile) requires it.
- Offer guidance to FI partners regarding financial/credit matters, market trends, and optimal practices.
- Effectively convey essential messages like service benchmarks, agreed pricing, relationship team contact information, and product updates.
- Quickly address and resolve client concerns and service problems.
- Recognize and align the most suitable products and services (Treasury, Trade Finance, Correspondent Banking, Cash Management, Lending) with FI requirements, while pursuing cross-sell opportunities in both reactive and proactive manners.
- Organize and manage marketing strategies for new ventures while actively enhancing current relationships. Synchronize methods to the portfolio by organizations throughout the Group.
- Oversee and confirm compliance with risk service criteria.
- Commercial and Collaboration Growth
Time Allocation: 20%
- Recognize and seek chances to broaden the bank’s presence within the FI ecosystem.
- Work together with internal teams (Treasury, Trade, Transaction Banking, Custody, and Capital Markets) to design creative solutions for FI partners.
- Increase revenue by promoting cross-selling and upselling of the bank’s offerings, such as FX, Custody, Cash Management, and Trade Finance.
- Investigate and uphold a pipeline of financial institutions for possible new business prospects.
- Remain informed about worldwide market trends, regulatory updates, and the competitive environment.
- Determine key customers by utilizing the Customer Prioritisation Guidelines to evaluate their current and possible impact.
- Prepare and evaluate credit applications, incorporating personal judgmental information on the Lending Advisor. Applications for sanctions are based on individual judgment.
- Oversee and manage the quality of the portfolio by utilizing “Condition of Sanction” indicators when feasible and in line with RM guidelines and banking policies.
- Oversee “Early Warning List” clients to minimize risk, adhering to guidance from H.O. and Regional sources.
Personnel Administration
Time Allocation: 10%
- Daily guidance and coordination of Corporate Support personnel to ensure uniform service quality and manage risk.
Risk and Control
Time Allocation: 10%
- Make certain that all tasks and responsibilities are performed in complete adherence to regulatory guidelines, the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework, and Absa’s internal Policies and Policy Standards.
- Comprehend and oversee risks and risk occurrences (incidents) pertinent to the position.
Skill sets / Abilities
- Deep knowledge of the FI environment, encompassing correspondent banking, non-bank financial institutions, capital markets, and trade finance.
- Demonstrated success in managing relationships and driving business growth in banking or financial services.
- Capability to connect and impact stakeholders across various levels.
- Informed about risk management challenges
Proficiency
- Capacity to collaborate with diverse cultural and interdisciplinary groups
- Product expertise: Lending, Cash handling, Treasury, and Trade.
- Proven skills in verbal and written communication.
- Proven skills in sales and negotiating.
- Strong understanding of credit processes, oversight, and financial assessment.

Experience & Abilities:
- Possesses strong expertise in corporate lending, particularly for multinational corporations.
- Experience in handling financial institution clients (Banks, DFIs, NBFIs, Insurance, Pensions, and other institutional investors) is a significant asset.
- The employee must possess an in-depth understanding of the essential range of corporate offerings.
- Skilled in trade dealings and their related procedures.
- Demonstrated history of success in sales.
- Outstanding comprehension of credit and related risks
- Analytical abilities for creating credit applications.
- Familiarity with Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, Word
- An appropriate university qualification
- A Master’s degree will provide an extra benefit.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree and Professional Credentials: Business, Commerce, and Management Studies (Mandatory)
