Changes in Express Entry: Upfront Medical Examination No Longer Required
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently made a substantial adjustment to the Express Entry application procedure. From October 1st, 2023, candidates are no longer required to undergo an upfront medical examination before filing an Express Entry application for permanent residence.
A medical examination by a panel physician or an Immigrant Medical Exam (IME) is a typical requirement for petitions for permanent residency.
If you have never had an IME, you can now upload a blank document in the Express Entry profile builder’s upload area during the application submission process. Following that, IRCC will send you details on how to schedule your medical examination.
If you have already completed an IME for a reason other than immigration, such as a job or study, and you are already residing in Canada, you do not need to undertake another one when applying for permanent residency.

Panel Physicians’ Roles

What Should You Bring to the Medical Exam?

All fees related to the medical examination are the responsibility of the applicants. The payments must be paid directly to the panel doctor by the candidate. Following the completion of the full medical examination, the panelist distributes a paper confirming the process’s completion.
Medical Exam Results Validity
The medical examination is valid for one year. If the candidate does not immigrate to Canada within the term specified, they may be required to retake the medical examination.
