Canada Work Permit: International Experience Canada Program 2024 | LMIA
When qualified, immigrants to Canada frequently apply for work permits. Those who are new to the country might wish to think about applying for a work permit through the International Experience Canada (IEC) program. The IEC pool provides candidates with more clarity regarding their chances of receiving a work permit than the majority of other programs.
What is the IEC and what kind of work permits does it offer?
The IEC is a youth (18–35) program for temporary residence available to citizens of nations with bilateral youth mobility agreements with Canada. These agreements let young people from other nations work and acquire experience in Canada while enabling young people from Canada to do the same abroad. In as little as six weeks, IEC candidates can receive approval for their work licenses.
Verify whether your nation and Canada have a bilateral youth mobility agreement. The age range that qualifies may also vary based on your country of origin and its agreement with Canada.
Typically, the IEC begins accepting applications in January and remains open for the entire year, or until all work permits are granted. Through three streams that grant work permits, the program enables successful applicants to live and work in Canada for a maximum of two years.
- Working Holiday Stream
- Young Professional Stream
- International Co-op Internship Stream
You might be eligible to apply to more than one of these streams if you are a citizen of a partner nation.
Working Holiday Stream
Those without a job offer can apply for the Working Holiday Stream;
- Desire to work for multiple companies
- Desire to work in multiple places
- Would like to get a job so they can afford to travel.
Youth immigrants can apply for Open Work Permits (OWPs) under the Working Holiday Stream. Work permits, known as OWPs, enable their holders to work virtually anywhere in Canada for the majority of companies across a wide range of industries. Some employees could need a medical examination.
Young Professional Stream
The Young Professional Stream caters to individuals who…
- Possess an offer of employment in Canada that goes toward their professional growth.
- Will spend their time in Canada working at the same place and for the same business.
Keep in mind that a novice cannot work for themselves under this category; all work must be compensated. Closed work permits are provided via this stream. These work permits are linked to a particular employer and list the employer’s name, the number of hours the employee will be working, and, if relevant, the area where the employee may work.
International Co-op Internship Stream
Those who belong to the International Co-op Stream are
- Are students enrolled in tertiary education programs?
- Possess a work placement or job offer from Canada
- To finish their courses, they must do this work placement or internship.
- Will spend their stay working for the same company in the same place.
Closed work permits are also available in this stream. Labor regulations in the province or territory where the internship is taking place must be followed in terms of wages and labor standards. The requirement for payment of an internship will also be determined by local regulations.
Those who apply are given certainty by the IEC. In contrast to almost all other immigration programs in Canada, the IEC does offer applicants a high level of transparency regarding their chances of being granted a work permit as a result of the program. This is because, if all requirements for eligibility are satisfied and fees are paid, the number of applicants in the IEC pool who have;
- Complied with their invitations
- Turned down their invitations
- Not replied to their invitations as of yet
- Allow the invites to lapse.
- Removed their online personas
It should be noted that applicants for a work permit through the IEC who are new must first create a profile in the candidate pool. Candidates will get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a work visa when their profile has been selected. Following this, they can submit a complete application under the stream of their choice.
How can I check on my chances of receiving an IEC work permit this year?
A candidate can utilize the IRCC’s IEC invitation round tool to determine their likelihood of being granted an IEC work permit. Based on the previously mentioned criteria, candidates will be required to input their desired work permit and nationality. Next, a likelihood assessment ranging from excellent (80–99%), very good (60–79%), Fair (40–59%), low (20–39%), or very low (1–19%) will be provided by the IEC tool.
Furthermore, the tool can display candidates;
- The number of places allotted to young people from a partner nation
- The total number of youngsters from that nation who have already received invitations to the current IEC season
- The total number of adolescents from that nation who are currently candidates in the IEC pool
