Canada wants 1.45 million more immigrants 2023 – 2025
Canada wants to bring in 1.45 million immigrants by 2025, which is a high number. This is to help fill jobs when there aren’t enough people to do them.
“Look, people, I don’t get it. “Canada needs more people,” Sean Fraser, Canada’s minister of immigration, refugees, and citizenship, said at a news conference on Tuesday (November 1, 2022). He said that the government is trying to improve the job market because the coronavirus outbreak left nearly a million jobs open.
The new immigration plan will admit 465 000 persons in 2023 and 500 000 in 2025. 405,000 immigrants entered Canada in 2018. “The most we’ve ever let in in a single year,” remarked the department head.
Trudeau tweeted, “We’re building on that and setting higher goals for the coming years because immigration is key to growing our economy and helping businesses find the workers they need.”
Canada’s growth approach seems less contentious because people move there for work. Last week, the census reported that 23% of the population was foreign-born. The most immigrants in 150 years.
Canada has long sought more immigrants to offset low birth rates and an aging population. It also revised procedures to address pandemic-related travel issues. Fraser added, “Canadians understand that we need to keep growing our population if we want to meet the needs of the labor force, reverse a worrying demographic trend, and keep bringing families back together.”
Fraser said that there are about three working people for every retired person in the country. He said that this was a first for economic movement.
“We need more workers in every industry and every part of the country, whether it’s front-line health care workers, truck drivers, home builders, or software engineers,” he said.
