Needless to say, this is one of the primary reasons behind the growing number of student visa refusals. Immigration specialists think that the Home Office’s subsequent checks with foreign banks in nations like Nigeria and India are where the actual issue arises. In these countries, however, overseas students are required to show they have enough money.
Also note that such requirements are not for applicants from countries that have a differentiation agreement with the UK, such as the US and Australia. Additionally, British nationals living overseas do not face such challenges.
Recent Student Visa Updates
Reports of student visa data confirm 53% of student visa applications between 2020 and 2022 were from countries that do not have a differentiation agreement with the UK. However, those applications made up 95% of all refusals.
Additionally, 2.5% of applications from nations whose citizens must undergo additional screening were turned down. This is relatively few compared to the 0.1% of rejections from countries with no such restrictions.
It’s interesting to note that China is the only nation with a differentiated agreement with the UK. However, the UK obtains the majority of applications for student visas from Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, India, and Nigeria.
