Berla Mundi, Ghanaian media personality is in trouble following a recent interview she had with a rape victim.
As host of “The Day Show” on TV3, she invited a rape victim identified as Mawusi. During the interview, she disclosed that she became a victim of rape at the age of 16. She mentioned that the rapist was a police officer whom she describes as thick tall. Mawusi continued that her family chose to resolve the case outside court after accepting an amount between 800 and 1000 Ghana cedis from the rapist.
Furthermore, She stated that though she was somewhat injured, she did not receive any medical care. She also mentioned that she really struggled with the policeman but at that time she was very young so she could not break free. She went on to explain that the rapist did not take it easy on her at all and that she screamed as loud as she could but no one heard her. During an unfortunate and sad discussion as such, the audience present on the show kept on laughing as though it were a comedy show.
Berla Mundi shared the video of her interview with the rape victim on her social media page. This action taken by the Television personality caught the attention of her fellow female celebrities. The likes of Sister Derby, Efia Odo and Stephanie Benson blasted Berla Mundi for being insensitive and unprofessional. According to them, it was her job to take a moment to address the audience on the seriousness of the matter as it was not a story to laugh about. For Stephanie Benson, the host is emotionless. She wondered if there was something wrong with our society. She concluded by asking God to forgives us. Efia Odo also believes that Africans do not take rape issues seriously.

Heaven Sake. Look at the people you are addressing, does any there look like they would have a problem with the host? Don't throw words out there that have no bearing on the matter at hand. We are talking about RAPE. And you ve come in with personal vendettas. 🤦🏾♀️

Why am I not surprised at who the host is? Someone who unfollowed me only because I called her out on her sexist and partriarchal tweet a few months ago. Host/MC (master of ceremony) yet you cannot control the audience nor educate them on the seriousness of the issue. https://t.co/ErGtc95pav
