About the Fellowship

The fellowship began in 2012 to raise the quality of African peacebuilding research. It also increases the visibility of this research regionally and globally. Fellows complete six months of field research. They then spend three months on analysis and writing. They produce knowledge relevant to scholarship, policy, and practice.

What Fellows Receive

Fellows receive up to $12,000 for research and related costs. They attend two mandatory workshops, in July and January. The workshops refine research designs and build networks. Fellows contribute to APDD’s working papers and policy review. They also receive mentorship from senior scholars.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must be African citizens living in an African country. Academics need a full-time university or research post. They must also hold a PhD obtained no earlier than January 2016. Practitioners need a master’s degree from before January 2021. They also need five years of peacebuilding experience in Africa.

Required Materials

Past applicants submitted an online form, research proposal, and CV. They also provided a timeline, budget, and two reference letters. Applicants should review the current APDD guidebook for details.
