A Full Guide to Canadian Work Visas and Permits

Canada is everyone’s dream place to work. Are you one of those who want to work in Canada and start a new career? In this case, you will need a Canadian work visa, which is a document that lets outsiders legally work in Canada. There may be times when you can work without a permit. This piece will talk about those times.

There is a constant stream of applications from foreign workers who want to come to Canada. They want to find jobs in Canada, which is often called the best place to live in the world, that offer good perks.

Almost everyone in the world has a dream of getting a good job in Canada. Even though there is a pandemic, the average national pay is about $54,630 per year, and the unemployment rate is only 6.0% (as of November 2021).

The 2 Types of Work Visas in Canada

There are two ways to get a work permit in Canada. The first group of Visas is for casual workers who only need to stay for six months or less. The second group of Visas is for people who want to move to Canada because they have found a good job or a permanent job there.

Temporary Work Visas

A Temporary Work Visa for Canada lets you get a Work Permit that lets you work for a short time. Depending on the type you get, the Work Permit will expire after a few months or a few years. You also can’t get Canadian perks like health insurance or try to become a Canadian citizen. When your work visa for Canada runs out, you can either apply for a new one or go back to your home country.

You can only work in Canada temporarily for six months or less, or for up to four years if you get any extensions. This isn’t always true, though. It may depend on where you’re from and what kind of Visa you have. After your Visa ends, you can’t stay and work in Canada any longer. If you do, you could be deported and told you can’t come back to Canada.

Permanent or Immigrant Work Visas

The second kind of Visa is for people who want to move to Canada because they have found a good job or a permanent job there through one of the following programs.

  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Provincial Nominee Program
  • Quebec-Selected Skilled Worker Program

If you have a Permanent Resident Visa for Canada, you can officially work in Canada. The Visa lets you live, work, and go to school in any Canadian state. It also lets you stay in Canada indefinitely.

Canada Work Permit Category or Types

Open Work Permits

Employers who do striptease, sexual dancing, escort services, or erotic massages are listed by the Canadian government as not following the law.

Employer-specific work permits

As it says, it lets you work according to what is on your work pass, which includes the following:

  • Name of your boss
  • length of time you can work
  • If possible, the place where you can work.

Employers in Canada need certain types of workers, so they hire casual foreign workers to fill those needs. It’s a good way to work in Canada before choosing whether or not to stay there permanently.

Through the International Mobility Program (IMP), you don’t need the Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) if the job is already on the list. Even if you don’t fit into any of the groups, you can still get this type of permit. But you’ll need to get LMIA first. Before hiring a foreign worker, a Canadian company needs to get an LMIA. Check to see if you can get this kind of pass.
