POSITION: Student Teacher
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invites applications for a Student Teacher role within its Seminaries and Institutes (S&I) program. This entry-level intern position is dedicated to helping youth and young adults deepen their conversion to Jesus Christ, prepare for temple blessings, and progress toward eternal life. You will be responsible for instructing daily seminary classes, which include lesson preparation, impactful teaching, and student mentorship.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Your role focuses on effective gospel instruction, professional growth, and building supportive relationships.
Teach Doctrinal Principles Effectively
- Teach students the doctrines and principles of the gospel from the scriptures and the words of modern prophets.
- Ensure teaching methods lead to genuine student understanding and spiritual edification.
- Utilize all approved S&I curriculum and materials in lesson preparation and presentation.
- Teach the designated number of classes as outlined by policy and in consultation with the Area Director.
Commit to Ongoing Professional Development
- Accept and complete assigned faculty responsibilities.
- Observe classroom teaching sessions and provide constructive feedback to fellow teachers.
- Actively strive for continual personal and professional growth in teaching methodology.
Foster Effective Working Relationships
- Establish clear, consistent, and respectful communication with local priesthood leaders.
- Work closely with these leaders to identify, enroll, and encourage all potential students.
- Cultivate a classroom environment defined by love, respect, and purposeful learning.
Schedule and Commitment
Preservice student teachers are expected to dedicate the necessary time to fulfill all assigned teaching and administrative duties.
Required Qualifications
- Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Be a worthy, active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and hold a current temple recommend.
- Exhibit a strong personal testimony of Jesus Christ and His restored gospel.
- Exemplify Church teachings regarding marriage and family life in your personal conduct.
- Maintain a reputation for meeting personal financial commitments.
- Demonstrate the ability to relate to, manage, and inspire a classroom of youth and young adults.
- Possess outstanding scripture teaching skills for both in person and online settings.
- Have prior experience as a volunteer Seminary or Institute teacher.
- Apply sensitivity, diplomacy, and an understanding of educational theory within a religious context.
- Be fully aligned with the direction and policies of the Church Board of Education and S&I leadership.
- Have basic proficiency in using standard office equipment.
