POSITION: HR Manager: Learning and Development

Position Summary

Concerning the position

The HR Learning and Development Manager will oversee Lively Minds’ L&D strategies and establish our practical, hands-on capability-building initiatives that enhance our organizational capacity, boost performance, assist career growth, and nurture talent development. The position will additionally assist our Head of HR in executing people strategies that attract, retain, and develop talent while also playing a key role in furthering a positive workplace culture that aligns with our organizational goals and aspirations.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

Strategic Learning and Development Initiatives

  • Create and Execute L&D Strategy: Formulate, carry out, and assess a future-oriented L&D strategy that aligns with company objectives, aids growth aspirations, and addresses employee requirements.
  • Design and Execute Programs: Formulate impactful learning initiatives (e.g,. bootcamps, leadership tracks, new country cultural orientations, etc.) utilizing a cost-efficient combination of internal and external resources.
  • Evaluate Skill Deficiencies: Perform an analysis of skills and behavioral gaps to determine present and future developmental requirements.
  • Assess and Enhance Impact: Monitor the success of training programs via feedback and performance results to refine educational and training efforts for ongoing enhancement.
  • Promote a Culture of Learning: Cultivate an environment of ongoing learning and exceptional performance, while connecting with peer networks from other NGOs and tracking best practices to implement novel strategies.

Succession Planning and overseeing “employee” risks

  • Strategic Talent Management: Work alongside SMT to guide the organization’s strategic method for recognizing talent for essential and at-risk positions, resulting in the creation and execution of a solid succession plan and extensive capacity development plan to equip identified successors.
  • Risk Management and Retention: Actively observes and aids in the oversight of possible ‘flight risks’, applying specific retention approaches to retain essential talents to safeguard institutional knowledge and ensure operational continuity.
  • Targeted Learning Programs: Utilizes performance evaluation data to recognize high-potential employees for succession planning and to create focused learning programs that tackle performance deficiencies and promote ongoing enhancement.
  • Perform consistent salary benchmarking: Carry out regular salary benchmarking, assessing pay equity among positions, and aligning compensation with career advancement to enhance employee motivation, retention, and organizational growth.
  • Evaluation and Assurance of L&D Programmes Quality: Establish quality assurance systems for L&D – Set up L&D quality assurance systems that encompass feedback from learners and assessments of trainers.
  • Create and uphold a strong feedback loop: Set up and sustain a strong feedback loop to consistently gather insights from employees and pertinent stakeholders, utilizing this feedback to continually refine and improve the design and execution of training programs in line with changing needs and priorities.
  • Perform consistent audits and impact evaluations: Carry out regular audits and impact evaluations of educational programs to verify they are achieving the desired results and fostering quantifiable enhancements in performance.

TYPICAL HR DUTIES

  • Monitor HR metrics (employee turnover, absentee rates, training return on investment, etc.) to deliver valuable insights that aid in decision-making and foster ongoing enhancement.
  • Deliver consistent HR reports and insights to the Head of HR for informed decision-making.
  • Advocate for and track advancements in DEI initiatives and provide reports on results.
  • Oversee the HR and Administration. Officer to guarantee that the work performed meets the highest standards.
  • Assist the Head of HR in:
    • Create and execute HR strategies that align with the goals and objectives of the organization, including fostering organizational change and initiatives to build culture.
    • Execute complete recruitment procedures encompassing smooth onboarding of newcomers and assessing the quality of their inductions.

Handling of disciplinary and grievance matters.

  • Manage the onboarding process for contractors and consultants hired by Lively Minds (both in current countries and new markets) while ensuring they fully embody the Lively Minds values and behaviors.
  • Create and execute employee engagement programs to enhance workers’ motivation, wellness, and retention.
  • Sustain, revise, and guarantee adherence to HR policies and procedures.

Required Skills or Experience

To excel in this position, you:

  • Have a strong enthusiasm for nurturing others and enjoy discovering innovative and entertaining methods to help them learn and succeed.
  • Possess a strong foundation in broader HR management with a focus on L&D.
  • You excel as a planner, facilitator, and communicator—flourishing when coordinating practical learning experiences for others, whether in virtual environments, formal classrooms, or identifying clear chances in everyday tasks.
  • Can also guide and provide feedback to trainers to enhance the quality of their performance.
  • You are an excellent trainer capable of adapting your style and methods to suit various types of audiences.
  • Are open to traveling to Uganda, Ghana, and additional countries where the organization is growing.
  • Capable of handling various tasks while upholding excellent quality standards.
  • Incorporate external best practices and insights into Lively Minds through networking, participating in conferences, and maintaining a strong desire for learning and continuous growth.

Technical Skills

Essential

  • A minimum of 2-3 years in a comparable position, along with an extra 4–6 years of experience in a broader HR role.
  • Thorough comprehension and utilization of educational principles, structures, theories, instructional methodologies, and organizational requirements.
  • Experience in performing job assessments and creating salary frameworks informed by salary comparisons and local adjustments in various countries.
  • Proficient in creating succession plans and fostering talent growth.
  • Expertise in developing and executing L&D strategies for an organization that operates across various nations (ideally in the Global South).
  • Expertise in creating and implementing training programs and obtaining measurable outcomes.
  • Strong comprehension of the labor regulations in Ghana, Uganda, and the UK.
  • The capability to handle a diverse and intricate workload while functioning under pressure.

Desired

  • Experience in coaching others; a coaching certification is preferred.
  • Experience in managing change.
  • Experience in changing behavior.
  • Engaged in a nonprofit organization functioning within or across the Global South.
