POSITION: Head of Risk, Compliance & AML
Position Overview
The Head of Risk, Compliance & AML will oversee all areas related to Risk Management, Compliance, and AML in line with the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CFT) Act, 2020 (Act 1044) and other applicable regulations.
Position Summary
- The Head of Risk, Compliance & AML will oversee all facets of Risk Management guidelines and the Banks and Specialized Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930), along with ensuring strict compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory obligations.
- Create and execute risk management structures, guidelines, and protocols to recognize, assess, and reduce the major risks faced by the bank.
- Make certain that risk champions document risk incidents in the risk register and gather their reports into a unified risk report for the bank.
- Inform senior management and the board about risk exposures and deviations from risk appetites, along with appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Perform routine compliance assessments on KYC/CDD and EDD for clients and suggest remedial measures for any violations.
- Guarantee the prompt preparation and delivery of risks, compliance, and AML/CFT reports to the board, Bank of Ghana, ARB Apex Bank, and other pertinent regulatory authorities.
- Implement efficient risk and compliance training sessions for all employees a minimum of two times each year.
- Counsel upper management on adherence to the Banks and Specialized Deposit-Taking Institutions Act 2016 (Act 930), along with other relevant regulations.
- Oversee the bank’s efforts in Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and preventing the financing of Terrorism (CFT).
- Examine questionable activities and transactions and submit suspicious transaction reports (STRs) to the FIC as necessary.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- A strong Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Banking, or any related field from a reputable university, along with a minimum of 10 years in a senior management role as a Risk and Compliance Manager.
- A postgraduate qualification in risk management, banking, accounting, finance, or a professional certification in ACIB, ICAG, ACCA, along with a minimum of 7 years of experience in a banking setting, including 4 years in a senior management role as a Risk and Compliance Manager.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044), Banks and Specialized Deposit-Taking Institutions 2016 (Act 930), along with other pertinent compliance directives and norms.
- Familiarity with the T24 R20 Temenos Banking application software
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and presentation abilities
- Robust analytical, problem-solving, and leadership abilities
- Strong commitment to integrity, confidentiality, and ethical principles.
- Capability to maneuver through the FCM portal
- Skilled in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
