POSITION: Manager, Knowledge Management and Communications

POSITION SUMMARY: This role is situated in Botswana, Liberia, Kenya, Ghana, or Sierra Leone.
The Manager of Knowledge Management and Communications for West Africa will be essential in ensuring that the Guinean Forests Regional Coordination Project (RCP) efficiently promotes knowledge sharing, learning, and communication among both state and non-state actors within the Guinean Forests Biome.
Collaborating closely with BirdLife International and under the direction of Conservation International, this role will create and execute strategies for knowledge management, branding, and communications. This position will require collaboration with the CI-GEF Agency and other CI Teams, BirdLife International, and regional governmental and non-governmental entities to improve information exchange, visibility, and participation throughout the program.
DUTIES
Communications:
- Create and execute the Communications and Outreach Strategy for Guinean Forests, along with the Branding Strategy and Knowledge Management Strategy, in partnership with CI, BirdLife International, and program collaborators
- Act as the main contact for program information inquiries, handling requests via the program’s online portal and additional methods.
- Collaborate with country project leaders and GEF Implementing Agencies to guarantee efficient information exchange and knowledge sharing among countries.
- Supervise the development and upkeep of the program’s online portal, collaborating with CI teams and external partners to guarantee current content.
- Create communication resources, such as reports, case studies, and briefing papers, to facilitate cooperation between CI and its partners.
- Collaborate with CI-GEF’s communication teams to guarantee that materials intended for the public adhere to branding and messaging standards.
- Oversee the program’s social media activity by sharing frequent updates, knowledge resources, webinar notifications, and project press releases.
- Oversee the creation of field narratives and innovative content from country initiatives for distribution via digital channels.
- Recognize chances to enhance the program’s exposure via press statements, publications, and interactions with outside media platforms.
- Assist in the organization and promotion of events for knowledge sharing, webinars, and training sessions.
- Offer specialized skills in customizing knowledge materials for various audiences and guaranteeing their successful distribution.
Website and Social Media Oversight for the Program:
- Consistently refresh the program website with updates, events, publications, blog entries, and pertinent information.
- Sustain the Program’s lively social media engagement, comprising:
- Creating a weekly and monthly social media schedule in collaboration with the communication leads from CI and BirdLife.
- Overseeing everyday social media tasks on Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and new platforms.
- Recognizing and enhancing partner content that corresponds with program objectives.
- Observing social media interactions and analyzing metrics to enhance content strategy.
- Assisting in the organization and reporting of conferences and events related to the program, including Twitter/X live spaces.
Newsletter and Graphic Design for the Program:
- Create and deliver the quarterly program newsletter, maintaining top-notch visuals and captivating content (sent through Mailchimp or comparable platforms).
- Create branded communications assets, such as reports, infographics, social media visuals, and promotional items (e.g., roll-up displays).
- Work together with the CI and BirdLife communications teams to ensure that all design efforts adhere to the branding guidelines of CI, GEF, BirdLife, and the program.
- Offer innovative suggestions and improvements to elevate the program’s visual identity as a whole.
Knowledge Administration:
- Create and oversee the program’s knowledge management database, guaranteeing effective storage, organization, and access to essential resources.
- Create knowledge management materials (e.g., case studies, lessons learned, best practices) to document and distribute insights gained from project execution.
- Collaborate with CI-GEF, various GEF Implementing Agencies, and Integrated Programs to share best practices in knowledge management and learning.
- Arrange and enable knowledge-sharing events, including expert panels, study tours, and focus groups.
- Offer further assistance in knowledge management as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor and the Lead of the Guinean Forests Program at BirdLife International.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Additional work hours may be necessary, including unconventional hours in an international organization.
- Travel internationally (up to 30%) might be necessary.

- This position will be a temporary assignment.
Qualifications
Necessary
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism (Television or Print), or a similar discipline.
- 4 to 6 years of relevant professional experience in communication or reporting related to environment, social services, and/or development.
- Experience collaborating with organizations involved in conservation and/or development.
- Robust capacity to operate autonomously and/or from a distance while sustaining efficiency.
- Proven skill in collaborating within team settings and fostering effective partnerships among various stakeholders.
- Proven skill in producing top-notch content and products under tight deadlines.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities in English, encompassing public speaking expertise.
Outstanding collaborator.
- Outstanding adaptive management abilities.
- Strong computer proficiency, encompassing Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, web design, and video editing applications.
- Demonstrated expertise in overseeing social media platforms for measurable interaction and outcomes, such as Meta, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Twitter/X, and more.
Preferred
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English, along with professional expertise in Portuguese or French, is a valuable benefit.
- Master’s degree in communications, journalism, or a similar area.
- Experience overseeing digital platforms.
- Proficient in overseeing social media platforms/networks.
