POSITION: Vice-Chancellor

Company Overview 

Accra Technical University, located in the business hub of Accra, Ghana, transitioned from a Polytechnic to a Technical University in September 2016 through the Technical Universities Act (Act 922). It offers higher education in engineering, science, technology, and vocational training, among other disciplines. The University employs around 600 staff and serves approximately 16,000 students in various academic programs, aiming to be a globally recognized institution known for practical training and applied research.

Position Overview

The Vice-Chancellor is the Executive Head of the University, overseeing both Academic and Administrative functions under the Governing Council. As the principal disciplinary authority, the Vice-Chancellor ensures the integrity of the University’s procedures and is responsible for implementing the Strategic Plan, subject to Governing Council approval. Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor advises the Governing Council and Academic Board on policy, finance, governance, and administration, and may assign functions to Senior Members with the Council’s consent.

CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT

The Vice-Chancellor serves a primary term of four (4) years, with the possibility of one reappointment. The Governing Council determines the appointment terms per the Technical Universities Act and Accra Technical University’s Statutes. Compensation and employment terms are competitive with similar Ghanaian universities.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Must be flawless and possess a strong sense of personal integrity, be cautious and beyond criticism.
  • Should be a recognized and globally esteemed academic, possessing a PhD or equivalent qualification, ideally in science, technology, or engineering, and must hold a professorial rank.
  • Should possess extensive experience and expertise in higher education and the industry.
  • Also, you should possess demonstrated ability to inspire and oversee faculty, staff, students, and University resources.
  • Should possess demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities.
  • Must have outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities, be collaborative, and be capable of handling and managing crises.
  • Then, you should possess the ability to generate funds and additional resources for education, research, and community service initiatives.
  • Should possess a minimum of twelve (12) years of post-qualification professional experience in a senior management role within a higher education or similar organization.
  • Lastly, you must be capable of completing a full tenure of four (4) years prior to reaching the legal retirement age of sixty (60) years.
