POSITION: Regional Communication Manager
About the Company
Vital Strategies is an international public health organization dedicated to enhancing health systems and tackling significant causes of disease and mortality across the globe. Functioning in more than 80 nations, we facilitate data-informed decision-making, advocate for evidence-supported policies, and spearhead strategic communication initiatives. Our main focuses are the prevention of noncommunicable diseases, control of tobacco use, road safety, and additional areas, mainly in low- and middle-income nations.
The Partnership for Healthy Cities (PHC), backed by Bloomberg Philanthropies and the WHO, is a coalition of 74 cities dedicated to curbing noncommunicable diseases and injuries.
We are looking for a Regional Communication Manager for Africa, a new position aimed at strengthening communication initiatives that support urban health policies and programs. This remote, full-time role is available for applicants located in East Africa (Rwanda, Ghana, Kenya, or Uganda).
Main Duties:
- Interact with media and organize events to promote the Partnership’s objectives.
- Work together with urban teams to develop and execute communication plans and resources.
- Organize technical support and enhance skills within urban health teams.
- Create content for communication resources, such as blogs and reports.

Requirements:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public affairs, public health, public relations, or marketing.
Skills
- Proficient in English and French (ideal).
- Background in communication, public relations, or advocacy, particularly in the area of public health.
- Excellent skills in both written and spoken communication.
- Capacity to collaborate with various organizations, such as municipal authorities and the press.
- Able to handle several projects and time constraints.
- Awareness of public health challenges in Africa is advantageous.
- Outstanding communication abilities.
- Driven, systematic, attentive to details.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office and knowledgeable in tools such as Meltwater, Mailchimp, social media platforms, and content management systems.
- Experience in public health or nonprofit organizations is an advantage.
Experience
- A minimum of 6-7 years in public relations or communications.
- Background in a communications firm.
- Experience in international development, public sector, or non-profit organizations.
- Built media connections in the area.
Working Environment:
- May necessitate up to 15% travel abroad.
- Readiness to operate across various time zones
