Job Title: Data Engineer

The Opportunity

We are hiring for two distinct Data Engineer positions, each with a unique focus and location requirement:

Product Data Engineer: This role is open to candidates in the Americas only. You will build and scale the data systems that power core product features like personalization, AI, and billing.
Data Platforms Engineer: This role is open to candidates in the Americas or EMEA. You will build and maintain our foundational data infrastructure, focusing on governance, privacy, security, and reliability.

Both roles will work with a modern tech stack to develop robust APIs, services, and foundational systems that other engineering teams rely on.

About You

You are an experienced data professional with a passion for building scalable, reliable systems. The ideal candidate possesses:

Core Engineering Experience: At least four years of experience building and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
Technical Specialization:
For Product Data Engineering: A strong software engineering foundation with experience designing APIs and data services that directly impact product experiences.
For Data Platforms: Proven experience implementing data governance, privacy, and security controls to ensure compliance and data integrity.
Technical Proficiency: High skill in Databricks, Spark, or similar distributed processing frameworks. Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript, with strong SQL abilities.
Quality Focus: A deep commitment to data reliability, observability, and quality through testing, monitoring, and alerting.
Collaborative Mindset: Excellent written communication skills, a knowledge-sharing attitude, and a pragmatic, action-oriented approach to problem-solving.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will have a direct impact on how data powers Zapier. Your key responsibilities will include:

Design & Build: You will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend data systems and APIs that directly influence user experience and internal operations.
Architectural Collaboration: You will partner with engineering and analytics teams to optimize data storage, processing workflows, and schemas, ensuring consistency and scalability.
Uphold Standards: You will champion best practices, build observable systems with strong testing, and contribute to CI/CD workflows that ensure data quality, security, and governance.
Optimize & Maintain: You will continuously monitor and optimize data workflow performance, participate in an on-call rotation, and resolve bottlenecks.
Enable Other Teams: You will develop reusable engineering patterns and frameworks that empower other engineers to self-serve data capabilities safely.
Cross-Functional Partnership: You will work closely with Product, Analytics, and Machine Learning teams to support their data-driven goals.
Mentorship: You will act as a resource for junior team members, sharing knowledge and contributing to a culture of continuous learning.
