Google names Peter Obi top trends in first half of 2022

The first half of 2022 has undoubtedly been memorable to many. The netizens in Nigeria have used the Google search engine to search for every information they could think of. Information ranges from the unrest on the political front as politicians prepare for the upcoming 2023 elections to the death of high-profile personalities, marriages of Nollywood stars, catchy songs, movies, and sports that are gaining popularity quickly.

1 . PETER OBI

Due to the prevailing economic situation in Nigeria, most of the citizens have become very interested in the happenings of the country. Most Nigerians have become very invested in the leadership affairs of the country and those that want to lead them as the country goes to the polls in 2023.

It, therefore, does not come as a surprise that, the presidential aspirant for the Labour Party in Nigeria, Peter Obi has emerged among the top 3  most searched people in the past half of the year. This is according to Google’s latest trends that were released on Thursday 21st July 2022.

Peter Obi is a Nigerian businessman and politician. He served as Governor of Anambra state for two separate terms.

2 . Putin Vladimir

The president of Russia also made it to the most searched on Google. His appearance on the list is because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The unending war became a topic for discussion on many media channels.

3 . Bianca Ojukwu

She is the widow of the late Chukuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, a Biafra warlord. She came into the limelight when she slapped the wife of an immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Ebelechukwu during the swearing-in of the current Governor Charles Soludo.

Another famous slap that made it to the most searched item on Google is the video of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars in March.

AFCON

Between January to June, AFCON 2022 became one of the most searched moments. This is not surprising because football is a passionate sport for most Africans. This year’s AFCON saw Senegal winning the Cup for the first time in history.

The death of Osinachi Nwachukwu also made it to the list. It was alleged that the musician died because of the constant abuse meted out to her by her husband. Also, the song Buga by Kizz Daniel and Tekno is the number one song trending.
