Job Description

Role Overview

As an Area Manager, you will supervise all microfinance activities within your assigned territory, ensuring compliance with operational standards and driving financial performance. You will mentor branch teams, monitor portfolio quality, and maintain BRAC’s commitment to serving clients at the base of the economic pyramid. This position demands both strategic oversight and hands-on field engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Branch Operations & Financial Oversight

  • Conduct weekly visits to all branches within the assigned area
  • Verify and authorize loan schemes, collections, and financial documentation
  • Reconcile client passbooks during field visits and branch inspections
  • Monitor cash management, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting

Portfolio Quality & Risk Management

  • Visit current and overdue borrowers to support recovery efforts
  • Analyze portfolio trends and implement corrective strategies
  • Review audit reports and prevent recurrence of operational irregularities
  • Ensure compliance with microfinance operational manuals and procedures

Team Leadership & Staff Development

  • Conduct regular meetings with branch managers and program staff
  • Resolve staff issues and facilitate professional development
  • Provide performance guidance and implement improvement plans
  • Manage staff requisitions, transfers, and disciplinary actions

Client Service & Social Mission

  • Ensure staff adherence to client treatment standards and code of conduct
  • Monitor client satisfaction and address complaints effectively
  • Maintain alignment with BRAC’s poverty targeting mission
  • Review client outcomes data and recommend program improvements

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • 3-5 years of managerial experience in microfinance or financial institutions
  • Knowledge of cash management and bank reconciliation processes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel

Technical Competencies:

  • Understanding of microfinance operations and portfolio management
  • Financial analysis and reporting capabilities
  • Staff supervision and team development skills
  • Risk management and compliance knowledge
