POSITION: Sales Manager
Job Summary
Pacific International Lines (PIL) has been a leader in the global shipping industry for over 55 years. We offer local experiences with a truly global reach. Consequently, we are looking for a proactive and skilled Commercial Manager to lead our sales and marketing strategy in Ghana.
This is not a routine sales role. You will work closely with the Managing Director to drive revenue growth, strengthen customer relationships, and align local initiatives with global standards. Also, you will lead pricing strategies, negotiate contracts, and manage key accounts. You will champion customer experience and provide market intelligence that guides critical decisions. Core Responsibilities
As Commercial Manager, you will own the national commercial strategy. You will expand market share, increase revenue, and build strong relationships with Beneficial Cargo Owners, NVOCCs, freight forwarders, and partners. You will lead a sales team, coach them to success, and ensure they meet clear KPIs. Your work will directly shape PIL’s presence and profitability in Ghana.
Your core responsibilities will include:
Strategic Leadership & Revenue Growth
- Develop and Execute Commercial Strategy: You will create a national plan to expand market share and drive revenue growth. You will align local initiatives with global standards and objectives.
- Lead Pricing and Contract Negotiations: You will set competitive pricing strategies and negotiate contracts that benefit both PIL and our clients. You will close deals with confidence and skill.
- Manage Strategic Accounts: You will oversee key accounts, ensuring they receive exceptional service and attention. You will build long-term partnerships that drive repeat business.
Customer & Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Build Strong Relationships: You will cultivate connections with BCOs, NVOCCs, freight forwarders, and industry partners. You will become a trusted advisor in the shipping community.
- Champion Customer Experience: You will prioritize service reliability and swift issue resolution. You will ensure every client interaction reflects PIL’s commitment to excellence.
- Provide Market Intelligence: You will gather competitor insights and market trends. You will use this intelligence to guide strategic decisions and keep PIL ahead of the curve.
Team Leadership & Development
- Coach and Develop a Sales Team: You will lead, mentor, and motivate a team of sales professionals. You will set clear KPIs and support them in achieving their goals.
- Foster High Performance: You will create a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You will celebrate wins and learn from setbacks together.
Digital Adoption & Operational Excellence
- Drive Adoption of Digital Tools: You will champion the use of CRM systems, online booking platforms, and digital sales tools. You will help your team leverage technology for better results.
- Ensure Accurate Forecasting and Budgeting: You will provide reliable sales forecasts and manage budgets effectively. You will keep the business on track financially.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: You will operate within all relevant regulations and company policies. You will protect PIL’s license to operate.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: You will work closely with Operations, Finance, and Customer Service teams. You will ensure end-to-end customer satisfaction through seamless collaboration.
The Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for a seasoned commercial leader with deep experience in shipping, logistics, or freight forwarding. You have at least five years in a leadership role and a proven track record of driving revenue and managing accounts.
To excel in this role, you will need:
Must-Have Qualifications & Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sales/Marketing, Logistics, or a related field. An MBA with a professional qualification is strongly preferred.
- Between 5 to 10 years of experience in shipping, logistics, or freight forwarding. You understand the industry inside out.
- At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role, managing teams and driving commercial strategy.
- Strong knowledge of liner shipping, container trade, and international trade practices. You know how goods move around the world.
- A proven track record in contract negotiation, pricing strategy, and strategic account management.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. You can influence at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM tools. You are comfortable with data and technology.
