POSITION: Lab Technicians / Technologists

Job Summary

Accra Institute of Technology (AIT) is a leading private technological university in Ghana. We are committed to producing industry-ready graduates through rigorous academic programs and practical, hands-on training. Consequently, we are looking for qualified and highly motivated individuals to join our team as Lab Technicians and Technologists in our modern engineering laboratories.

This is not a behind-the-scenes role. You will work directly with students from level 100 to level 400, guiding them through experiments, ensuring safety, and maintaining sophisticated equipment. Lab Technician/Technologist – Electrical & Electronic Engineering Lab
Lab Technician/Technologist – Microprocessor, Embedded Technologies & Robotics Lab

Responsibilities

As a Lab Technician or Technologist, you will be the backbone of our practical engineering education. You will ensure labs are fully operational, equipment is maintained, and students receive the guidance they need to connect theory with practice. Your expertise will directly influence the quality of engineers we graduate.

Your core responsibilities will include:

Laboratory Management & Maintenance

Oversee Daily Lab Operations: You will ensure the laboratory is clean, organized, and ready for student use at all times. You will maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
Maintain and Calibrate Equipment: You will handle routine maintenance and calibration of lab equipment. You will ensure everything functions correctly for experiments and projects.
Manage Inventory and Supplies: You will track consumables and supplies, ordering replacements as needed. You will ensure the lab never runs out of essential materials.

Student Instruction & Guidance

Guide Students Through Experiments: You will work directly with students from level 100 to level 400, demonstrating procedures and explaining concepts. You will make practical learning accessible.
Supervise Lab Sessions: You will oversee lab sessions, ensuring students follow safety protocols and use equipment correctly. You will be the expert in the room.
Assist with Projects: You will support final-year students and project groups with technical advice and access to equipment. You will help turn ideas into working prototypes.

Technical Expertise & Support

Troubleshoot Technical Issues: You will diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions quickly. You will minimize downtime and keep labs operational.
Develop Lab Exercises: You will collaborate with faculty to design and improve lab exercises that enhance learning outcomes.
Stay Current with Technology: You will keep your technical knowledge up to date. You will understand emerging trends in your engineering discipline.

The Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for experienced professionals who can work independently and communicate effectively with students. Your technical background must be strong, but your patience and teaching ability are equally important.

To excel in these roles, you will need:

Qualifications & Experience

A first degree or HND in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Microelectronics, Microprocessor System Engineering, or a closely related field.
A minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience working in a modern engineering laboratory. You know your way around the equipment.
Proven ability to work in the lab without supervision. You are self-directed and reliable.

Technical Skills (Role-Specific)

For Civil Engineering Lab: Strong knowledge of civil engineering testing equipment, materials testing procedures, and lab safety protocols.
For Electrical & Electronic Engineering Lab: Proficiency with oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters, and basic circuit components. Understanding of electrical safety standards.
For Microprocessor, Embedded Technologies & Robotics Lab: Knowledge of programming microprocessor systems and embedded systems is a requisite advantage. You should be comfortable with microcontrollers, sensors, and robotics platforms.
