5 step formulas to get your Canadian job

Let’s talk about how to get a good job in Canada.

It’s a lot more than just sending in online applications, and we have a 5-step plan to help you get a job in Canada:

Step 1 is about putting yourself in a good place to succeed.

This is about knowing exactly what kind of job, company, and industry you would be best at. It’s about making sure you highlight the right parts of your experience and match them up with what companies want and need. Also, It’s about sifting through your experience and putting it into words that will make employers want to look at your resume. It’s about figuring out what you’re good at and working on that.

The biggest benefit of getting it right is that you know exactly what your goal is and can put all of your efforts in the right way. It makes you feel like you know what you’re doing, which gives you more security.

When this is done right, what happens? You will seem either too qualified or not qualified enough. If you belong to any of these groups, it will hurt your chances of success.

Book a career consultation now if you don’t know where you fit in the Canadian job market or how to use your skills to succeed.

Step 2 is all about showing what you can do for the company through your RESUME, COVER LETTER, and LINKEDIN PROFILE.

It all comes down to the quality of the material you give. It’s NOT about making a list of chores and duties. Moreover, It’s about showing HOW you can add value by describing your accomplishments, results, and skills in a way that fits the wants and expectations of employers. It’s about tailoring your resume and cover letter to each job you apply for by using the right keywords and business terms.

This might not be enough, though. As a new person, we want you to go above and beyond to SHOW what you can do. Think outside the box and show off your work as much as you can. Are you an “Excel Ninja,” and do you need to have strong Excel skills for the job? Send us an example of an automatic spreadsheet you made with the tool’s more advanced features. This is just one example of the thousands of ways you can stand out.

Step 3 is about getting your name out there by building relationships and making connections.

How many times have you told yourself, “Come on…I just need ONE chance”?

Well, when you go out and start talking to people, you’ll have lots of chances to show how valuable you are. When you do that, you give people a chance to learn about you, your past, and your work. More than a random distribution of resumes, it’s the personal link that will lead to results.

Focus on certain companies, find out who works there, and start talking to them. Be interested in what they do, and don’t ask them right away for a job. First, you need to make a real relationship with them so they can learn more about you and maybe match your skills to a job opening they have.

When making connections with a specific goal in mind, like getting more job interviews through referrals, there are many things to keep in mind.

Step 4 It’s not about following a plan, but about being ready for anything and able to change on the spot.

It’s about taking an active part in convincing and changing how the interviewer sees you. You need to do a lot of prep work, think about your experience, skills, and job goals ahead of time, and be able to explain all of this in a clear, structured, and confident way.

It means being completely aware of what you say, how you say it, and what you don’t say. You should only tell the employer things that are important to them.

Step 5 is to MONITOR PROGRESS and MEASURE RESULTS.

Do you keep sending out dozens or even hundreds of jobs and wait for someone to call you back? We understand how annoying this can be.

But here’s the thing: you need to know when it’s time to try something different. Keeping track of your efforts is the only way to know for sure what’s working and what’s not.

Use Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to keep track of the jobs you’re looking for (title, source, company, date of application, etc.) as well as the contacts you’re making and the steps you’re taking to move those relationships forward. When networking, write down any useful information or tips that people give you. You’ll start to see the trends, which can help you figure out how to change your strategy to reach your goal.
