Yemen Introduces New e-Visa System to Streamline Entry for International Travelers

Yemen has launched an electronic visa (e-Visa) system to simplify travel for foreign visitors. Officially introduced on June 24, 2025, this platform allows travelers to apply online for various visa types, including tourist, business, and diplomatic visas. Although the application process is digital, payments must currently be made in cash at designated locations.

This initiative aims to restore confidence among international visitors and modernize Yemen’s public services. The e-Visa system is part of a broader effort to enhance border security while rebuilding Yemen’s global ties after years of internal conflict.

Yemen’s New e-Visa System

The e-Visa system, managed by the Immigration, Passports and Nationality Authority (IPNA), was developed with support from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and funded by the United States. The platform is live at yemenevisa.org. Travelers can apply online for various types of visas, including:

This new single-window approach replaces Yemen’s previous manual visa system, which often faced delays due to administrative hurdles.

Application Process

To apply for an e-Visa, users must:

• Create an account on the official platform.
• Complete the application form for the desired visa type.
• Upload required documents, including:
• A valid passport (at least 6 months)
• Return ticket
• Health certificate
• Supporting documents, such as invitation letters or admission certificates

While the application process is nearly fully digital, online payments are not yet available. Instead, travelers must make cash payments in USD at immigration offices or designated consulates. Online payment functionality is expected to be added soon.

Once submitted, applicants can expect to receive their e-Visa via email within 3 to 5 business days.

• Diplomatic/Official Visa: Available for government officials and diplomats, requiring additional documentation from the relevant government agency.
• Tourist Visa: While group tourism visas are mentioned in the e-Visa system, individual tourist visas may not always be available. Some embassies, such as the Yemeni Embassy in Washington, D.C., are currently not issuing tourist visas.
