About the Scholarship
The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, together with the UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), is providing scholarships for a Master’s in Public Health or MSc in Applied Health Social Science concentrating on Implementation Research (IR).
This initiative seeks to develop skills in addressing four significant global health issues:
- Epidemics and outbreaks
- Control and elimination of diseases of poverty
- Climate change’s impact on health
- Antimicrobial resistance.
Researchers will gain practical experience in Implementation Research, a domain that pinpoints obstacles in health systems and formulates effective strategies, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The curriculum features on-site instruction in Accra, Ghana, along with a research dissertation dedicated to IR within the framework of poverty-related infectious diseases.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for this esteemed scholarship, candidates are required to:
- Firstly, be a citizen and resident of a country in the WHO African region where English is spoken.
- Secondly, be 37 years of age or less.
- Additionally, meet the University of Ghana’s entry criteria for local or international postgraduate students.
- Moreover, be skilled in English
- Also, be presently working at an academic or research institution, a non-profit organization, or a Ministry of Health in a low- or middle-income country.
- Then, identify a local supervisor or mentor before beginning the program.
- Lastly, possess computer skills, encompassing Microsoft Office and data analysis tools.
Applications will be evaluated on academic qualifications, gender, and geographic diversity, prioritizing candidates who have experience in Implementation Research related to the pertinent global health issues.

Application Deadline
The application period starts on February 21, 2025. The deadline for the TDR Scholarship application is May 4, 2025, and the University of Ghana application deadline is June 15, 2025.
