UAE PASSPORT APPLICATION PORTAL
Emirati passports are those issued to Emirati nationals by the government of UAE for use when traveling abroad. Every emirate that makes up the United Arab Emirates prior to its creation in 1971 issued its own passports and travel credentials.
Emirati passports have been biometric since December 2011. After Qatar, the UAE is the next GCC nation to offer such passports.
TYPES OF UAE PASSPORT
Emirati passports come in a variety of forms:
- Regular Passport: given to nationals of the UAE.
- Special Passport: Members of the Federal Council, ex-high-ranking government officials, and their families are given special passports. The Federal Supreme Council may also make a federal decision to provide Emirati state delegates with a passport.

- Service or Temporary Passport: given to citizens and non-citizens for a set amount of time to carry out a specified duty that benefits the state. If issued to a non-citizen, this passport does not grant the holder the right to reside in the UAE.
- Emergency passports: given to UAE nationals who have misplaced their passport when traveling overseas, who have misplaced their identity card while traveling inside the GCC, whose passport has expired while traveling abroad, or who need to evacuate due to a natural calamity.
PASSPORT VALIDATION PERIOD
Typically, a passport is valid for 5 years from the date of issuing or until all of its pages have been used, whichever comes first. There is no way to extend a passport after it has expired, thus the individual must obtain a new one.
UAE PASSPORT ELIGIBILITY CRITERION
According to the Dubai Government, the following individuals can apply for a UAE passport:
- UAE residents
- kids born to UAE citizens
- Spouses of foreign-national (by dependency)
